JUNE 3, 1760599And then the Messenger withdrew.Ordered That Mr. Wright be added to the Committee who were appointedto inquire into the Conduct of Mr. Joseph Nutt, during the Timehe acted as Commissary on the late Expedition against the Cherokee Indians.And then the House adjourned till to-morrow Morning, Ten of the Clock.Tuesday the 3d Day of June 1760.Read the Journals of Yesterday’s Proceedings.Read a third time “a Bill for finishing, enlarging, repairing, cleansingand keeping clean and in repair the common Drain or Sewer in Elliott Streetin Charles-Town.”Resolved, that the Bill do pass: And that the Title be “an Act for finishing,enlarging, repairing, cleansing, and keeping clean and in repair thecommon Drain or Sewer in Elliott Street in Charles Town.”Ordered That Mr. Gadsden do carry the Bill to the Council, and desiretheir Concurrence.Read an Account of John Purvis amounting to £7:10.Read also an Order in favour of William Killingsworth for £28:15, beingfor the Service of the late Expedition.Ordered, That the said Papers be referred to the consideration of theCommittee who were appointed to audit the Public Accounts, and that theydo examine the same, and report their Opinion thereupon to the House.Mr. Roper presented to the House an Account of Doctor JamesTompson amounting to £78:15 for his service as Surgeon of the Garrison atFort Lyttelton; which Account was ordered to be returned to DoctorTompson to be explained: And Mr. Roper acquainted the House, that therehad been but one Surgeon to the three Provincial Companies paid by theMuster-Rolls of those Companies.Resolved, That the said Account be provided for.Mr. Rattray reported from the Committee to whom the Petition of ThomasMellichamp was referred, that they had examined the Matter of the saidPetition, and had directed him to report the same, as it appeared to them,to the House; and he read the Report in his Place, and afterward deliveredit in at the Clerk’s Table: Where the same was read, and is as follows, vizt.That some of the Committee, in Summer last, in pursuance of the Orderof this House, did, at the request of Mr. Mellichamp, accompany him tothe Plantation of Mr. Benjamin Elliott in St. Andrew’s Parish, and there sawhim the said Mellichamp exhibit his new invented Method of manufacturingFlora Indico: Which method they found to be the same with that contained
