358 COMMONS JOURNAL, MARCH 5, 1759–APRIL 7, 1759Ordered that it be an Instruction to the Committee to whom the PublicTreasurer’s Accounts were referred, to Consider of proper Methods forsinking all the Public Orders that have been issued for Taxes since the Year1753, and that are yet Outstanding, and Report the same, as it shall appearto them, to the House.Ordered that it be an Instruction to the said Committee that they doexamine the Public Treasurer’s Account of the Moneys granted for raisingand paying the South Carolina Regiment, and report the same, as it shallappear to them, to the House.Ordered that the Gentlemen who were directed by this House to importArms from Great Britain to be disposed of to the Inhabitants of thisProvince for Account of the Public, do lay an Account of that Transactionbefore this House.And then the House adjourned till to Morrow Morning Nine of theClock.Friday the 23d Day of March 1759.The Journal of Yesterday’s Proceedings was read.Resolved that the Public Treasurer do advance the further Sum of Fifteenhundred Pounds Currency to defray the Charge for Carriage of Provisionsto the Garrisons in the Out Settlements.Ordered that a Committee be appointed to Enquire what Savings havebeen made by the present Method of Paying for Carriage of Provisions to theGarrisons in the Out Settlements, and report the same, as it shall appear to them,to the House; And it is referred to Mr. Laurens, Mr. McQueen and Mr. Blake.Then the House proceeded to read the Schedule to be annexed to theTax Bill for the Year Ending the 31st Day of December 1758 Inclusive, a SecondTime.The House being moved that the Sum of Two hundred and fifty PoundsSterling or One thousand Seven hundred and fifty Pounds Currency be insertedin the said Schedule, under the head of Salarys, for Mr. Crokatt’s Servicesas Agent for this Province, the same was objected to as irregular, beingalready determined by the House the 21st Instant.Resolved (upon the Question) that the said Motion is regular and agreeableto the former Practice of the House.Mr. Crokatt’s Letter of the 6th of July 1753 to the Committee of Correspondence,And Mr. Middleton’s Letter of the 1st of July 1756 to the Committee ofCorrespondence were severally read.Then the Question was put that the Sum of Two hundred and fifty
