DECEMBER 1, 175743A Member of the Committee to whom his Excellencys Orders to theCommissary for Supplying the Forces now in Charles Town with Necessaries& the Account of the Expence incurr’d thereby were referred, acquaintedthe House that in the Course of their Examining the said Papers, it appearedto the Committee that one of the Officers of the Highland Battallion hadendeavoured to defraud the Public or the Soldiers & Attempted to seducea Public Officer. And moved the House for their directions therein.Ordered That it be an Instruction to the said Committee that they doreport that Matter as it appeared to them with their Opinion thereupon tothe House.According to Order the following Message to The Governor was drawn, Viz.May it please your Excellency,This House having the most dutiful Sense of our most GraciousSovereign’s Paternal Care & Goodness in ordering such a ConsiderableNumber of Forces to be Sent for the Protection & Defence of this Province& having maturely considered that Part of your Excellencys Speech deliver’dto us at the opening of the present session of the General Assembly, whichrelates to the making a Proper Provission for the Accomodation of HisMajestys Forces here as well those in the pay of the Crown as the Provincials,& the forming such regulations as may render the Service as easy as Possiblewithin this Government, & which is a Matter propounded by your Excellencyto us as the Object of our first Consideration, We humbly beg Leave to acquaintyour Excellency that we had orderd in a Bill which has been Twiceread in this House & is now before his Majestys Council providing such Regulationsconcerning the said Forces as we conceive to be most suitable to theSituation of the Province & the Circumstances of its Inhabitants. And wehave resolved to make the following Provission for their Accomodations, Viz.That 7 Shillings Current Money per Diem be paid from the 30th ofNovember Last, to each Subaltern Officer of the said Forces (to wit) Lieutenants& Ensigns Actually in Commission, in lieu of Quarters & all otherProvission whatever to be made for the said Officers by this Government, tobe Continued no Longer than until Barracks Shall be constructed for theAccomodation of the said Officers.That two Cords of wood per Week be provided for each Company of100 Effective men Actually in Charles Town from the 30th November to the1st of April & four Cords of Wood per Month for Each of the said Companiesfrom the 1st of April to the 1st of October, Ten Pounds of Candles (GuardRooms included), half a Gallon of Vinegar, half a Pound of Pepper & half aBushell of Salt per week to each Company of 100 Men. And we have resolv’dto provide for Such of the following Articles as are not already purchased,viz.
