378 COMMONS JOURNAL, MARCH 5, 1759–APRIL 7, 1759In Answer to your Message of the 19th of January last, with Several Lettersfrom the Collonels of Militia, We beg leave to acquaint Your Excellencythat this House have passed A Bill to revive and Continue several Acts of theGeneral Assembly of this Province (the Militia Act being One) for the Termof five Years, from the time the said Bill passes into a Law, with a Clausethereunto added to oblige the Militia in Charles Town to train, Muster andExercise Eight times in the Year, during the Continuance of the present War.And the same being twice read,Ordered that the said Message be Ingrossed.May it please Your Excellency,Upon Inspecting the Act Intitled “An Act for regulating the Buildingshereafter to be Erected in Charles Town &ca.” passed the 20th Day of December1740, We find that five of the Seven Commissioners who were appointedby the said Act are since dead, and We have Reason to believe theother Commissioners have refused to Act; We humbly desire that Your Excellencywill be pleased to appoint other Commissioners in their Room, aswe think it of the greatest Consequence that the said Act should be carry’dinto Execution.And the said Message being twice read,Ordered that the same do lye upon the Table.Ordered that it be an Instruction to the Committee of Grievances that theydo enquire what Infringements have been made on the Streets, Lanes and PublicAlleys in Charles Town, Contrary to the Intent and Meaning of An Act passedthe 20th Day of December 1740, for regulating the Buildings in the said Town,and to consider how and in what manner the said Act can be better carry’d intoExecution, and that they do report the same, as it shall appear to them, to theHouse, And that Mr. Guerard, Mr. Laurens, Mr. Gadsden, Mr. Manigault, Mr.Daniel Crawford be added to the said Committee.The Governors Message of the 29th of March last, Concerning the Constructionof a Powder Magazine,And the Address of the Petition of the Subscribers in Behalf of themselves& Others, Freeholders and Inhabitants of the Parish of Saint Philip’sCharles Town, were severally read.Ordered that the said Message be referred to the Consideration of aCommittee, and that they do report their Opinion thereupon to the House.And it is referred to Mr. Guerard, Mr. Lowndes, Mr. Laurens, Mr.Rattray, Mr. Gadsden, Mr. Wragg, Mr. Pinckney.Then a Letter dated the 25th of November 1758 from James Wright Esqr.,Agent to sollicit the Affairs of this Province in Great Britain, directed to theHonorable the Committee of Correspondence,A Copy of His Memorial to the Right Honorable The Lords of the Treasury,
