This program has two certifcation<br />

options:<br />

Childhood – First to Sixth Grade (1-6)<br />

Adolescence – Seventh to Twelfth Grade<br />

(7-12)<br />

and<br />

Six academic concentrations:<br />

1. Liberal Arts & Science, Math and<br />

Science: Biology A.S. Degree<br />

2. Liberal Arts & Science, Math and<br />

Science: Chemistry A. S. Degree<br />

3 Liberal Arts & Science, Math and<br />

Science: Mathematics A. S. Degree<br />

4. Liberal Arts & Science, Humanities:<br />

English A. A. Degree<br />

A. Liberal Arts & Science, Social Science:<br />

History A.A. Degree<br />

B. Liberal Arts & Science, Social Science:<br />

Social Studies A.A. Degree<br />

<strong>Columbia</strong>-<strong>Greene</strong> students entering this<br />

program are, at the same time, accepted<br />

into the <strong>College</strong> at New Paltz. Upon<br />

successful completion of either an A.A.<br />

degree (English, history or social studies<br />

concentration) or an A.S. degree (biology,<br />

chemistry or mathematics concentration),<br />

students can seamlessly transfer to SUNY-<br />

New Paltz with full junior standing in<br />

order to complete the bachelor’s degree.<br />

Admission to New Paltz is guaranteed<br />

under this joint program if the following<br />

criteria for acceptance are met:<br />

A. complete a prescribed program with<br />

an academic concentration and a 2.75<br />

GPA or higher<br />

B. a grade of B- or above is required in<br />

PY 205, ED 101, MA 105, ED 110,<br />

EN 101 and EN 102 for Childhood<br />

Education<br />

C. a grade of B- or above is required in<br />

PY 205 and ED 101 in Adolescence<br />

Education. And a grade of B or above<br />

is required in EN 101 and EN 102 in<br />

Adolescence Education.<br />

D. complete a successful interview with<br />

program staff at SUNY New Paltz<br />

E. submit documentation of approved<br />

work experience with children<br />

NOTE: The Birth to Second Grade option<br />

will be discontinued as of Fall 2012. The<br />

Childhood 1-6 option will provide the<br />

transfer base for dual certifcation of B-2<br />

and 1-6 at SUNY New Paltz.<br />

The joint admission program is<br />

designed for students who plan to<br />

transfer to the <strong>College</strong> at New Paltz<br />

in childhood, adolescence education<br />

with the certifcation options and<br />

academic concentrations listed above.<br />

However, please be informed that course<br />

adjustments can be made in order for<br />

students to successfully transfer to other<br />

SUNY and private colleges. Students<br />

transferring to an education program<br />

other than the <strong>College</strong> at New Paltz may<br />

discuss their plans with the Education<br />

Coordinator, Bill Mathews. He can be<br />

reached in the Counseling Offce, Room<br />
