Ar 125H—Hnrs: Understanding<br />

visual Arts<br />

An honors-level seminar structured<br />

around a series of questions that will<br />

lead students to an in-depth awareness<br />

and understanding of visual reality.<br />

Our understanding will be developed<br />

through class discussions, readings,<br />

presentations and visits to studios and<br />

museums. Students will learn to clearly<br />

and comprehensively describe, in written<br />

form, observed visual reality. Prerequisite:<br />

cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher and<br />

submission of essay to the Honors<br />

en 102H—Hnrs: Composition and<br />

Literature<br />

This course continues the reading and<br />

writing of EN 101. Readings range from<br />

short stories and poetry to plays and/or<br />

novels. Writing includes both formal and<br />

informal criticism or analysis of the texts.<br />

The learning experience will be enhanced<br />

through the addition of more specialized<br />

information and experiences. Prerequisite:<br />

EN 101 and cumulative GPA of 3.25 or<br />

higher and submission of essay to the<br />

Hi 103H—Hnrs: United states<br />

history 1492-1865<br />

This course will cover American history<br />

through the Civil War and reconstruction.<br />

The general themes will be as those found<br />

in HI 103 with emphasis to a greater extent<br />

on the theme of confict in early America<br />

and the ideologies and temperaments which<br />

were at the root of the different visions<br />

Americans had for their country. This<br />

honors course will utilize primary sources<br />

and outside of the classroom experiences<br />

in supplementing the textbook. Students<br />

will study the lives of common folk as<br />

well as political leaders, and learn what<br />

material culture can tell us about people of<br />

the past. Prerequisite: cumulative GPA of<br />

3.25 or higher and submission of essay to<br />

the Honors Committee. (3 semester hours)<br />

E/O Fall<br />

Hi 104H—Hnrs: United states<br />

history 1865-Present<br />

This course will cover American history<br />

from the end of the Civil War to present.<br />

The general themes will be the same as<br />

those found in HI 104. This honors class<br />

will supplement the textbook through<br />

primary sources and out of classroom<br />

experiences. Focus will be on how some<br />

aspects of our political history such as<br />

civil rights and environmental protection<br />

started out as fringe movements, while<br />

other aspects such as military intervention<br />

in foreign affairs have long been<br />

commonly accepted. Students will look<br />

at material culture and the man-made<br />

landscape and how social and economic<br />

forces can change that landscape.<br />

Prerequisite: cumulative GPA of 3.25 or<br />

higher and submission of essay to the<br />

Honors Committee. (3 semester hours)<br />
