responsibilities and rights<br />
It is the student’s responsibility:<br />
1. to familiarize themselves with fnancial<br />
aid procedures, forms and deadlines.<br />
2. to fle all forms accurately and by the<br />
specifed deadline.<br />
3. to inform the fnancial aid offce of<br />
any changes to their fnancial situation.<br />
This could result in a change to the<br />
students fnancial aid package.<br />
4. to notify the fnancial aid offce of any<br />
private scholarships or awards the student<br />
receives.<br />
5. to notify the fnancial aid offce of any<br />
drops or withdrawals from courses.<br />
6. to honor all agreements, including<br />
repayment provisions on any loans.<br />
7. to provide all forms as requested for<br />
verifcation of family income, family<br />
size, and similar matters.<br />
8. to reapply for fnancial aid each academic<br />
year.<br />
9. to maintain fnancial aid eligibility by<br />
making satisfactory academic progress<br />
and pursuing an approved program of<br />
study.<br />
It is the student’s right:<br />
1. to know how fnancial need was<br />
determined.<br />
2. to know how fnancial aid decisions<br />
were made.<br />
3. to appeal any fnancial aid decisions.<br />
4. to know how fnancial aid is awarded<br />
and disbursed.<br />
5. to know what types of fnancial aid<br />
must be repaid and the annual interest<br />
rate.<br />

6. to know the <strong>College</strong>’s refund policies.<br />
7. to appeal academic dismissal.<br />
How to Apply<br />
Submit the 2012-2013 Free Application<br />
for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or 2012-<br />
2013 renewal application. This should be<br />
completed on line at www.fafsa.gov.<br />
Students and parents can use the IRS data<br />
retrieval tool to ensure accuracy when<br />
completing the FAFSA. The IRS data<br />
retrieval tool allows students and parents<br />
to import the IRS income information<br />
directly to the FAFSA application.<br />
Submit the 2012-2013 <strong>Columbia</strong>-<br />
<strong>Greene</strong> <strong>Community</strong> <strong>College</strong> fnancial aid<br />
application available from the Financial<br />
Aid Offce.<br />

application using the link on the FAFSA<br />
confrmation page.<br />
Part-time students should submit the Aid<br />
for Part Time Study application (APTS)<br />
directly to the C-<strong>GCC</strong> Financial Aid<br />
Offce.<br />
Many of the forms can also be downloaded<br />
from the fnancial aid section of the C-<strong>GCC</strong><br />
website. Information needed to complete<br />
these applications can be taken from the<br />
parents’, student’s, and spouse’s tax returns<br />
from the previous year.<br />
Students can now conveniently check<br />
on the status of their TAP grant by<br />
visiting the HESC web site at HESC.<br />
ny.gov: or by using the C-<strong>GCC</strong> web site<br />
at www.sunyC<strong>GCC</strong>.edu to link to HESC.<br />
Additionally, once fnancial aid awards are<br />
computed, they can be viewed by using<br />
C-<strong>GCC</strong>’s Campus Connect.<br />
