BU 104—Human resource<br />

management<br />

A study of the sociological problems in<br />

organizations, including topics such as<br />

supervision, labor relations, motivation,<br />

delegation, communications, decisionmaking<br />

techniques, and a review of policies<br />

and legislation affecting labor/management<br />

relations. (3 semester hours) Fall<br />

BU 105—Business Communications<br />

Instruction and practice in written and<br />

oral business communication. Emphasis<br />

is placed on effectively writing specifc<br />

types of business letters. Role playing<br />

and small group evaluation techniques<br />

may be used. Techniques for fnding and<br />

applying for employment are presented.<br />

Students will have to make several oral<br />

presentations on both business and nonbusiness<br />

topics. The fundamentals of word<br />

usage and sentence structure are reviewed.<br />

NOTE: keyboarding skills are required. (3<br />

Bu 107—Business law i<br />

Studies the fundamentals of legal liability<br />

and growth of our legal institutions, the<br />

principles of law and contracts, personal<br />

property and bailments, and sales. (3<br />

Bu 108—Business law ii<br />

Topics include commercial paper,<br />

agency and employment, partnerships,<br />

corporations, real property and the<br />

environment, estates, and bankruptcy.<br />

Prerequisite: BU 107. (3 semester hours)<br />

BU 113—small Business management<br />

The principles and practices governing<br />

the successful management of a small<br />

business will be studied. Material covered<br />

will be applicable to small businesses<br />

involved in manufacturing, retailing,<br />

and service. Topics include fnancing the<br />

small business, site location and facility<br />

planning, manufacturing and inventory<br />

control, fnancial management, and the<br />

planning function. The psychology of<br />

entrepreneurs and their role in American<br />

BU 116—quickBooks<br />

An in-depth application of the uses of<br />

the computerized accounting package<br />

QuickBooks. Students will learn to use the<br />

software to deal with all the accounting<br />

applications for a small business<br />

including invoices, receipts, payroll, bank<br />

reconciliations, tracking inventory and all<br />

year-end procedures. NOTE: Repeat of<br />

AC 222. Prerequisite/corequisite: AC 101.<br />

Bu 125—medical Offce Procedures<br />

This course will provide knowledge of<br />

administrative support in today’s health<br />

care environment. Students will learn<br />

to input patient information, schedule<br />

appointment, handle billing, and produce<br />

medical offce lists and reports. NOTE:<br />

Repeat of OT 134 Prerequisite: CI 101 (3<br />

BU 126—medical Billing<br />

This course is an introduction to<br />

medical billing and the coding process.<br />

Documentation and medical necessity<br />

guidelines, claims submission, and<br />

reimbursement protocols, both<br />

electronically and via mail, and working<br />

with different payers (HMOs, Medicare)<br />

will be presented. (3 semester hours) Spring<br />

Bu 128—Advanced medical Billing<br />

This course is a continuation and<br />

expansion of Medical Billing (BU 126).<br />

It will present advanced processes and<br />

documentation procedures in the areas<br />

of medical necessity guidelines, claims<br />

submission, and reimbursement protocols.<br />

This is an intensive study of the processes<br />

involved when working with various<br />

payers in medical billing. Prerequisite: BU<br />

126. (3 semester hours) Spring<br />
