AH 105—introduction to eastern<br />

Anatomy and Physiology<br />

This course will provide the theoretical<br />

and historical framework of Eastern<br />

Anatomy and Physiology. Students will<br />

explore the concepts of Qi, Blood, Shen,<br />

Jing, Yin/Yang, Five Element Theory, 12<br />

meridian and vessel pathways, and their<br />

potential application to bodywork. Zang-<br />

Fu and Eight Principles will be introduced.<br />

The underlying causes of disease will be<br />

examined by analyzing the physiology<br />

and basic patterns of disharmony of each<br />

organ system. Students will develop skills<br />

in Qi palpation, self cultivation, and body/<br />

mind preparedness to practice Eastern<br />

bodywork. (3 semester hours) Fall<br />

Art<br />

Ar 104—Basic Painting<br />

An introduction to the basic materials and<br />

methods of painting. Emphasis will be on<br />

color perception, mixing, application and<br />

on the control of pictorial space. Students<br />

will also learn preparation of grounds for<br />

painting and will work in acrylic and/<br />

Ar 106—Ceramics i<br />

A general course involving hand-building<br />

techniques to construct forms out of<br />

clay through coiling, slab construction,<br />

molding, and beginning wheel. Projects<br />

will introduce students to various ideas<br />

and uses of clay, both traditional and<br />

nontraditional. Creative work will be<br />

encouraged. Prerequisite for Fine Art<br />

Majors: AR 108. (2 lecture hours/2 studio<br />

hours) (3 semester hours) Fall/Spring<br />

Ar 107—Visual Arts 2-D<br />

Introduces the compositional concepts and<br />

vocabulary basic to painting, photography,<br />

graphic design, and other two-dimensional<br />

expressions. Assignments may be<br />

completed in a variety of materials<br />

and techniques, including painting,<br />

photography, computer generated imagery,<br />

and collage. (2 lecture hours/2 studio<br />

hours) (3 semester hours) Fall<br />

Ar 108—Visual Arts 3-D<br />

Introduces the basic concepts and<br />

vocabulary for sculpture, architecture,<br />

product design, and other areas of threedimensional<br />

design. Through a series<br />

of weekly assignments using simple<br />

materials and methods, students will<br />

investigate the formal qualities of objects.<br />

Developing an inventive approach to<br />

object making will be a principal goal of<br />

this course. (2 lecture hours/2 lab hours)<br />

Ar 116—Art History: Pre-history to 14C<br />

A survey of world art history from the<br />

pre-classical to 1400 a.d., investigating<br />

forms in art and their link with history.<br />

Emphasis will be on the development of<br />

visual skills and visual memory. Written<br />

assignments and class discussions will be<br />

important factors in students’ evaluations.<br />
