Admissions<br />

As a college under the Full Opportunity<br />

Plan of the State of New York, <strong>Columbia</strong>-<br />

<strong>Greene</strong> <strong>Community</strong> <strong>College</strong> assures<br />

a place to any applicant who meets<br />

admissions requirements, although<br />

acceptance to particular programs is not<br />

guaranteed. Admission to C-<strong>GCC</strong> is based<br />

on individual student records, with priority<br />

given to <strong>Columbia</strong> and <strong>Greene</strong> County<br />

residents. Admission is granted for fall,<br />

spring, and summer. In accordance with<br />

New York State law, the college reserves<br />

the right to refuse admission to any<br />

applicant when it is deemed in the best<br />

interest of the institution to do so.<br />

Defnitions<br />

matriculated: The academic status of a<br />

student who is offcially committed to a<br />

particular degree or certifcate program.<br />

Requirements for matriculation include<br />

completion of the application process,<br />

acceptance to a specifc program, and<br />

enrollment and attendance in courses.<br />

Matriculation is mandatory to confer a<br />

degree or a certifcate and, in most cases,<br />

for a student to receive scholarships and/<br />

or fnancial aid and/or credits for advanced<br />

standing.” Matriculation” or “matriculated<br />

status” indicates that:<br />

1. The college has evaluated the student’s<br />

application and credentials and has<br />

reason to believe the student has<br />

the ability to complete all degree<br />

requirements.<br />

2. The college has formally accepted the<br />

student as a degree candidate. Only<br />

matriculated students may attend full<br />

time (12 or more credits per semester).<br />

3. The student remains in good academic<br />

standing.<br />

non-matriculated: The academic status<br />

of a student who is enrolled in a course<br />

or courses who has not been formally<br />

accepted in a degree or certifcate<br />

program or whose matriculation has<br />

been terminated for any reason. Nonmatriculated<br />

students are not eligible for<br />

a degree or fnancial aid. Credits accrued<br />

while non-matriculated may be applied<br />

to a degree once the student becomes<br />

matriculated.<br />

full time: A student who is enrolled<br />

in 12 semester hours or more usually a<br />

minimum of four courses. In most cases<br />

full-time students must be matriculated.<br />

Part time: A student who is enrolled in<br />

fewer than 12 semester hours.<br />

freshman: A student with no previous<br />

college experience or a student with 0 to<br />

29 semester hours.<br />

sophomore: A student with 30 to 64<br />

semester hours.<br />

transfer: A student who has taken<br />

college-level work at an institution other<br />

than <strong>Columbia</strong>-<strong>Greene</strong>.<br />

Application Procedures and<br />

requirements<br />

First-time applicants who would like<br />

to matriculate in a degree or certifcate<br />

program at <strong>Columbia</strong>-<strong>Greene</strong> <strong>Community</strong><br />

<strong>College</strong> must meet the following<br />

requirements:<br />

1. The student must be a high school<br />

graduate or hold a GED or the<br />

student’s high school class must have<br />

already graduated.<br />

2. The student must complete a<br />

<strong>Columbia</strong>-<strong>Greene</strong> Application for<br />

Admission, which can be obtained
