An applications-oriented course covering<br />
the non-calculus portions of mathematics<br />
needed by students majoring in business,<br />
management, economics, and life or<br />
social sciences. Topics include straight<br />
lines and linear functions, systems of<br />
linear equations and matrices, linear<br />
programming, mathematics of fnance,<br />
Markov chains and the Theory of Games.<br />

mA 105—math for elementary<br />
teachers<br />
This course is designed for students<br />
transferring into elementary education<br />
programs. This course provides<br />
prospective elementary school teachers<br />
with a clear and broad understanding of<br />
the major mathematical concepts and<br />
skills commonly taught in elementary<br />
math classes. The emphasis will be on<br />
problem solving as it relates to the number<br />
system. Probability and statistics are also<br />
introduced. NOTE: Does not satisfy any<br />
mathematics requirement. Prerequisite:<br />

mA 108—Technical mathematics<br />
This course is intended for students<br />
enrolled in a technical program. Topics<br />
include: Units of Measurement, Equations<br />
and Inequalities, Graphs, Quadratic<br />
Functions, Exponential Functions, and<br />
Right Triangle Trigonometry. All topics are<br />
approached from the applied perspective.<br />

mA 110—<strong>College</strong> Algebra<br />
This is a reform math course. Students<br />
will work in collaborative groups on<br />
activities in which the mathematics arises<br />
from context. Real life data is interpreted<br />
numerically, symbolically and graphically.<br />
Topics include: Linear, quadratic, rational<br />
and exponential functions. NOTE: The<br />
TI-83/84 Plus calculator is required.<br />
Prerequisite: Elementary Algebra (MA<br />

mA 111—Precalculus<br />
This is a study of functions that model<br />
real-world behavior. Linear, exponential,<br />
logarithmic, trigonometric, polynomial<br />
and rational functions are studied.<br />
This course serves as a foundation for<br />
students going on to Calculus. NOTE:<br />
The TI-83/84 Plus calculator is required.<br />
Prerequisite: MA 110 with a course grade<br />

mA 112—Calculus for Business<br />
Applications of differential and integral<br />
calculus to the analysis of marginal cost<br />
and revenue, effect of taxation, revenue<br />
from taxation, profts, inventory control,<br />
capital budgeting, producer and consumer<br />
surplus. NOTE: The TI-83/84 Plus<br />
calculator is required. Prerequisite: MA<br />
