therapy<br />

This course is designed to introduce<br />

students to specialization in the feld<br />

of alternative therapies. Various guest<br />

speakers will lecture and demonstrate<br />

their areas of expertise, exposing students<br />

to avenues of employment based on<br />

furthering education, and to the benefts<br />

and risks of specializing. Topics will vary<br />

each term but may include lymphatic<br />

drainage, stone therapy, geriatric massage<br />

and aromatherapy. Prerequisites: MT 201,<br />

MT 210, MT 220. (2 semester hours)<br />

mU 101—introduction to music<br />

Teaches students how to listen to music<br />

and understand it by identifying the basic<br />

materials of music and relating them to<br />

other areas; e.g., poetry, painting, sculpture,<br />

and architecture. By way of reading,<br />

lectures, and listening to music, the course<br />

proceeds from basic concepts in music to<br />

an understanding of form, movement, and<br />

style. (3 semester hours) Fall<br />

mU 103—History of Jazz<br />

A brief history of jazz from its beginning to<br />

the present through lectures, listening, and<br />

reading. The various styles will be presented<br />

as well as the lives and history of selected<br />

performers. (3 semester hours) Spring<br />

nU 101—nursing i<br />

Students will examine the health-illness<br />

framework of the nursing program. The<br />

nurse’s role as a communicator, care<br />

provider, client teacher, manager of<br />

client care, and member of the nursing<br />

profession is presented. The nursing<br />

process is utilized as the basis for all<br />

nursing practice throughout the lifecycle.<br />

A body of knowledge will be acquired<br />

to permit individualized nursing care of<br />

clients based on scientifc rationale from<br />

the biological and behavioral sciences<br />

and liberal arts. Classroom and campus<br />

lab, and clinical practice will develop<br />

beginning skills in both the technical<br />

and interpersonal aspects of nursing.<br />

This course includes the fundamental<br />

concepts that subsequent courses will<br />

build on. Corequisites: BI 130, EN 101,<br />

and matriculation in the Nursing Program.<br />

nU 102—nursing ii<br />

The care of the client with common<br />

health needs related to oxygenation, fuid<br />

and electrolyte balance, and elimination<br />

are presented. Students will continue to<br />

develop skills in the campus laboratory<br />

and utilize the nursing process when<br />

administering nursing care to individual<br />

clients. Prerequisites: NU 101, BI 130,<br />

EN 101. Corequisites: BI 131, BI 210 and<br />

PY 101. (4 lecture hours/9 lab hours) (7<br />

nU 201—nursing iii<br />

The concepts and therapies used in the<br />

nursing care of clients with complex<br />

psychosocial needs and dysfunctional<br />

behaviors are introduced. Another<br />

focus will be on individuals during the<br />

reproductive stage of life and care of<br />

the newborn. Students will also have<br />

the opportunity to incorporate medical/<br />

surgical nursing concepts. A variety<br />

of classroom, clinical, and community<br />

laboratory experiences provide for<br />

correlation of theory and practice.<br />

BI 131, BI 210, EN 101, MA 102 or
