Advising, Career Counseling &<br />
transfer services<br />
Academic, career, and transfer advising<br />
is a shared responsibility essential to<br />
the educational experience and student<br />
success. As a result of their experience in<br />
Advising, Career Counseling & Transfer<br />
Services, students will:<br />
• Explore felds of study and career<br />
paths that are congruent with their<br />
personal values, interests, abilities,<br />
and life goals.<br />
• Take advantage of campus and<br />
community opportunities and<br />
articulate how these contribute<br />
to their educational and career<br />
exploration.<br />
• Establish meaningful goals using<br />
effective decision making strategies.<br />
• Independently identify and utilize<br />
resources to evaluate their progress<br />
toward degree completion and/or<br />
college transfer.<br />
• Utilize college resources to navigate<br />
the transfer process and/or pursue<br />
employment opportunities.<br />
Advising, Career Counseling & Transfer<br />
Services strives to help students achieve<br />
these outcomes by offering individual<br />
appointments and a variety of activities<br />
and resources designed to supplement the<br />
individual counseling sessions. These<br />
include a career planning course, career<br />
experience feld studies, online career<br />
resources, workshops, printed materials,<br />
and pre-advising help sessions.<br />

Academic Advising<br />
Advisors work with students to provide<br />
them with the information and skills<br />
necessary to take responsibility for their<br />
academic success. Students will work<br />
with their advisor on their education plans<br />
using the resources and support systems<br />
the college provides.<br />
Career Counseling<br />
Counselors are available to assist students<br />
determine if they need career guidance<br />
(vocational testing and occupational<br />
research) or career counseling.<br />
Career counseling uses career construction<br />
theory to help students make vocational<br />
choices and maintain successful and<br />
satisfying work lives. In the counseling<br />
process students reveal their career stories<br />
and identify the themes used to make<br />
meaningful choices and adjust to work<br />
roles. This process is about fnding the<br />
person’s story and helping them fgure out<br />
their quest in life. What is their passion?<br />
What is their spirit? By identifying stories<br />
a person can be better able to select a<br />
career path and a life strategy that has<br />
meaning for them.<br />
CAreerLinK<br />
CareerLink is an online system available<br />
to C-<strong>GCC</strong> students and alumni.<br />
Registration allows access to full and<br />
part-time job listings and internships,<br />
primarily from local employers. Students/<br />
alumni may also post resumes, apply for<br />
jobs, view upcoming events and browse<br />
academic, career and transfer resources<br />
and links.<br />

FOCUS is an internet-based career<br />
guidance system that helps individuals<br />
systematically explore goals, interests,<br />
values, and skills. Once individual<br />
preferences are entered, the program<br />
provides in-depth information about
