mt 201—Western medical massage<br />
This course will provide students the<br />
opportunity to examine health conditions.<br />
Specifc techniques that are effective<br />
for treating certain acute and chronic<br />
conditions will be analyzed. Hydrocryo<br />
Therapy, and heat applications<br />
will be practiced, including the use of<br />
immersions, cold packs, ice massages,<br />
and hydroculator packs. Identifying when<br />
a client needs a medical referral will<br />
be discussed. Of the 75 hours, 50 will<br />
be devoted to the discussion of specifc<br />
pathologies and applicable treatment.<br />
Students will have the opportunity to<br />
practice techniques on chosen conditions<br />
which best illustrate the general principles<br />
of medical massage. Prerequisite: BI 130,<br />
BI 135, and MT 102 all with a C or better.<br />

mt 210—eastern medical massage<br />
This course will provide students the<br />
opportunity to expand upon information<br />
gathered in Eastern Anatomy and<br />
Physiology and in Eastern Massage. Five<br />
Element Theory, superfcial meridians,<br />
elemential associations, patterns of<br />
disharmony and organ dysfunction, and<br />
methods of evaluation will be integrated to<br />
design a comprehensive full body session<br />
tailored to clients’ specifc needs and<br />
health conditions. Prerequisite: MT 110,<br />
BI 130 and BI 135 all with a C or better.<br />

mt 220–massage Clinical i<br />
This course is intended to provide students<br />
with the opportunity to practice under the<br />
supervision of a New York State licensed<br />
massage therapist. The focus of the course<br />
is for students to apply knowledge and<br />
techniques acquired in previous massage<br />
training to work with the general public.<br />
Students may work with clients at (offsite)<br />
locations selected by the massage<br />
faculty (including athletic facilities,<br />
retirement homes, abuse shelters, and<br />
other such locations) for a total of 90<br />
hours. No prescriptions will be needed and<br />
sessions will range from 30 to 60 minutes.<br />
Students will practice establishing client<br />
boundaries and maintaining professional<br />
conduct in dealing with the general public.<br />
Prerequisites: MT 101, MT 102 and MT<br />
110. (6 lab hours) (2 semester hours) Fall<br />
mt 222—massage Clinical ii<br />
This course will provide students with the<br />
opportunity to practice in a clinical setting<br />
under the supervision of New York State<br />
licensed massage therapists. The focus of<br />
this course is to apply the knowledge and<br />
techniques acquired in all previous massage<br />
therapy training courses. Students will<br />
read prescriptions and write brief papers<br />
outlining the etiology, description, and their<br />
proposed treatment for the condition(s)<br />
listed in the prescription. Students will<br />
learn to do extensive intake evaluation and<br />
subsequent treatment plans. This course<br />
provides students the opportunity to prepare<br />
and utilize intakes, maintain client records<br />
and fles, recognize contraindications and<br />
precautions, establish and maintain clear<br />
boundaries, and maintain professional<br />
conduct in dealing with the general public.<br />
Prerequisites: MT 220, MT 201, and MT<br />

mt 230—massage seminar<br />
