meningococcal meningitis—all students<br />

who are enrolled for at least six semester<br />

hours must also return the meningitis<br />

information response form certifying<br />

they have had an immunization against<br />

meningococcal meningitis within the<br />

preceding ten years OR they have received<br />

and reviewed the information about<br />

meningococcal meningitis provided by<br />

<strong>Columbia</strong>-<strong>Greene</strong> <strong>Community</strong> <strong>College</strong>,<br />

understand the risk of the disease and the<br />

benefts of immunization and have decided<br />

NOT to obtain the immunization.<br />

Students in the Nursing and Massage<br />

Therapy Programs must comply with<br />

additional immunization requirements<br />

as indicated on their health assessment<br />

form which is to be returned to the Health<br />

Services Offce.<br />

New York State law mandates that a student<br />

be excluded from all classes 30 days after<br />

the semester begins if his/her immunization<br />

requirements have not been met.<br />

Applicants without a High school<br />

diploma<br />

Students who lack a high school or general<br />

equivalency diploma (GED), or students<br />

graduating from non-registered schools<br />

or correspondence schools both within<br />

and outside of New York State, may<br />

apply for admission to <strong>Columbia</strong>-<strong>Greene</strong><br />

if their high school class has already<br />

graduated. These students must take the<br />

C-<strong>GCC</strong> placement test and meet with an<br />

Admissions Counselor.<br />

Students who frst enroll in a program of<br />

study on or after July 1, 2012, will NOT<br />

be eligible to receive Title IV student aid.<br />

information. Students may qualify for<br />

a GED by successfully completing 24<br />

semester hours in a degree or certifcate<br />

program at <strong>Columbia</strong>-<strong>Greene</strong> <strong>Community</strong><br />

<strong>College</strong>.<br />

The State Education Department of New<br />

York has specifed the 24 semester hours<br />

required to earn a high school equivalency<br />

diploma:<br />

• 6 semester hours in English Language<br />

Arts, including writing, speaking and<br />

literature<br />

• 3 semester hours in mathematics<br />

• 3 semester hours in natural science<br />

• 3 semester hours in social science<br />

• 3 semester hours in humanities<br />

• 6 credits in the student’s registered<br />

program<br />

Upon completion of this program, it is<br />

the student’s responsibility to apply to the<br />

New York State Education Department<br />

for the equivalency diploma. The student<br />

must receive the GED before qualifying to<br />

complete a degree at C-<strong>GCC</strong>. Transitional<br />

skills courses are not included in the<br />

24-credit-hour requirement.<br />

Applicants with an ieP diploma<br />

The New York State Education Department<br />

has ruled that an IEP diploma is not<br />

equivalent to a high school diploma.<br />

Therefore, community colleges, including<br />

<strong>Columbia</strong>-<strong>Greene</strong>, are under no legal<br />

obligation to accept students under<br />

the terms of the New York State Full<br />

Opportunity Policy. Students who hold<br />

an IEP diploma may apply for admission<br />

to C-<strong>GCC</strong> if their high school class has<br />

already graduated.<br />

The policy of C-<strong>GCC</strong> is to review the<br />

application of IEP applicants based on the<br />

same criteria used for students who lack a<br />

high school diploma or GED. Applicants<br />

with an IEP diploma must take the C-<strong>GCC</strong><br />

placement test.
