Pe 151—indoor soccer<br />

This course will focus on the unique game<br />

of indoor soccer. The emphasis will be on<br />

play area, offense, defense strategies, rules<br />

and playing skills. The course will also<br />

cover history of soccer and game etiquette.<br />

(1 semester hour) Spring<br />

Pe 162—Aerobic fitness<br />

A course of light-impact aerobic activities.<br />

This class will be an integration of a variety of<br />

exercises that increase cardiovascular strength<br />

and stamina. The course will also promote an<br />

awareness of the benefts of regular aerobic<br />

exercise. (1 semester hour) Fall/Spring<br />

PE 182—Cross-country Skiing<br />

This course is designed to give the student<br />

an opportunity to acquire skills and<br />

knowledge in beginning classic crosscountry<br />

skiing, as well as experience the<br />

physical and environmental challenges<br />

that the sport offers. Students will be<br />

taught ski techniques, equipment selection,<br />

and outdoor safety information. Students<br />

need to have the physical stamina to be<br />

able to exert the physical effort necessary<br />

in this sport. NOTE: Minimum additional<br />

fee of $150. (1 semester hour) Spring<br />

PE 184—recreational Climbing<br />

A beginning course in rock climbing.<br />

Basic techniques will be taught concerning<br />

knots, belaying, rappelling, climbing,<br />

anchoring, safety and equipment. The<br />

focus will be on top-rope climbing only. (1<br />

semester hour) Summer<br />

PE 185—Weight Training<br />

Educates students in the principles<br />

of weight training plus offers them a<br />

supervised personal weight training<br />

program. Students will be instructed in<br />

proper weight-training techniques, safety<br />

measures, and specifc exercises for<br />

each major muscle group. Universal and<br />

free-weight equipment will be used. (1<br />

semester hour) Fall/Spring<br />

PE 190—Advanced Weight Training<br />

Designed to enable students to continue<br />

to learn about the physiology of strength<br />

training as well as participate in a regular<br />

weight training program. Prerequisite: PE<br />

185. (1 semester hour) Fall/Spring<br />

PE 192—Frontcountry hiking and<br />

Camping<br />

This practical and experiential course<br />

is designed for students with little or<br />

no knowledge of camping and hiking.<br />

The course will involve discussions,<br />

demonstrations, and activities to teach<br />

students the basics of frontcountry<br />

hiking and camping. Topics covered will<br />

include: equipment selection and use,<br />

map and compass skills, GPS, cooking,<br />

staying healthy in the outdoors, safety and<br />

emergency procedures, and frontcountry<br />

ethics (“Leave No Trace”). Application<br />

of these skills will be utilized over the<br />

duration of a required overnight camping<br />

trip. Not only will students have the<br />

opportunity to practice these skills, but<br />

they will also develop their leadership<br />

abilities by working in a collaborative<br />

team environment. (1 semester hour) Fall/<br />

Spring<br />

PE 218—Criminal Justice Fitness<br />

Leadership<br />

This course is designed to allow<br />

students to continue their own physical<br />

preparation for potential employment in<br />

law enforcement and to begin developing<br />

leadership skills in the training and<br />

motivating of others who are beginning<br />

ftness training. Students will be trained<br />

within the guideline of FitForce, a national<br />

comprehensive ftness program for law<br />

enforcement personnel. Prerequisite: PE<br />

118. (1 semester hour) Fall/Spring
