ProGrAm GoALs:<br />
The A.S. Human Services degree prepares<br />
the student to transfer to four-year<br />
schools with junior status to continue<br />
their Bachelor level education in social<br />
work, psychology, sociology or related<br />
felds. Additionally, the A.S. Human<br />
Services degree provides the student with<br />
the skills necessary to gain immediate<br />
employment in the human services feld at<br />
the beginning professional level.<br />
ProGrAm oUtComes:<br />
• Interpret and articulate knowledge of<br />
historical and contemporary research in<br />
the social and behavioral sciences.<br />
• Demonstrate competency in<br />
understanding current helping theories<br />
and professional practices, including<br />
ethical considerations.<br />
• Demonstrate practical knowledge in<br />
coursework and community settings.<br />
• Show ability to examine historical and<br />
contemporary social issues/problems.<br />
• Analyze current research and its<br />
implications and disseminate strategies<br />
to positively impact current social<br />
issues/problems in a practical setting.<br />
ACAdemiC PrePArAtion:<br />
An interview is required for applicants<br />
to the Human Services program.<br />
Students who are interested in pursuing<br />
the feld of Human Services must be<br />
emotionally prepared to challenge their<br />
own perceptions and worldview in order<br />
to begin to understand the multicultural<br />
worldviews of the people they will be<br />
serving.<br />

It is highly recommended that the<br />
following criteria be met to begin this<br />
program, and is REQUIRED by the<br />
completion of 24 credits:<br />
12th-grade reading level is required.<br />
Placement test scores must indicate<br />
readiness to begin EN 101-Composition.<br />
Competency in Elementary Algebra is<br />
required. <strong>College</strong>-level profciency on<br />
Math Placement Examination.<br />
Competency in <strong>College</strong> Algebra is highly<br />
recommended.<br />
