A study of philosophical ethics,<br />

metaphysics, logic, epistemology, and<br />

aesthetics in the thinking of Western and<br />

Eastern philosophers. Special attention is<br />

given to the cultural setting and impact of<br />

philosophy and thinking philosophically.<br />

PL 102—Philosophical Approaches to<br />

morality<br />

This course is a survey of ethics<br />

and morality in western and eastern<br />

philosophical traditions. The following<br />

topics will be addressed: defnitions of<br />

ethics and morality, ethical relativism,<br />

egoism, ethical theories, virtue, feminist<br />

ethics, the ethics of compassion and<br />

suffering (Buddhism), Benevolence<br />

(Confucius) and Taoism. Applied ethics<br />

will be explored via the analysis of current<br />

issues in media ethics, political ethics,<br />

business ethics, educational ethics and<br />

An introduction to the philosophies and<br />

religions of the East. Particular attention<br />

is given to Hinduism, Buddhism,<br />

An algebra-based theory and laboratory<br />

course covering the physics of mechanics,<br />

An analysis of the American political<br />

system, with emphasis on the Constitution.<br />

Topics include American conservative<br />

and liberal political traditions, political<br />

parties, and the organization and operation<br />

of the executive, judicial, and legislative<br />

branches of government. (3 semester<br />

Ps 102—American state and Local<br />

Government<br />

This course studies the structure and<br />

functions of American governments, the<br />

American pattern of local government,<br />

relationship of local to state government,<br />

and of both to the Federal government.<br />
