career. Topics include an assessment<br />

concerning career choices, the<br />
employment possibilities in various<br />
careers and occupations, and personality<br />
characteristics and stress factors related<br />
to career choices. Vocational testing<br />
and “SIGI” computer research are<br />
incorporated as self-assessment tools. (3<br />

CP 112—Career experience field study<br />
Provides students with directed exposure<br />
to an actual job situation. Students will<br />
be placed in a work site for 90 hours of<br />
feldwork that will provide exposure to a<br />
career of interest to the student. Grading is<br />
Satisfactory (S) or Unsatisfactory (U). (2<br />

CP 113—Career experience field study<br />
Provides students with directed exposure<br />
to an actual job situation. Students will<br />
be placed in a work site for 45 hours of<br />
feldwork that will provide exposure to a<br />

Ci 101—Computer essentials<br />
This course introduces the student to<br />
modern personal computers and touchtyping<br />
techniques. Topics include<br />
hardware, software, the Windows<br />
Operating Systems, the Internet, word<br />
processing and document formatting.<br />
NOTE: This course may not be used<br />
as a computer science (CS) elective. (3<br />
semester hours) Fall/Spring<br />
Ci 105—Computer Applications<br />
Examines how to use computers to<br />
solve problems, write reports, and<br />
summarize data. Simple word processing,<br />
spreadsheets, database management, and<br />
presentation software will be learned using<br />
Microsoft Offce. Other topics include the<br />
role of the computer in today’s world and<br />
available hardware and software choices.<br />
Programming a computer will not be<br />
studied. Prerequisite: CI 101 or equivalent<br />
(competency in keyboarding) is required.<br />

Applications<br />
Advanced features in word processing,<br />
spreadsheets, database management, and<br />
presentation software using Microsoft<br />

Ci 141—desktop Publishing<br />
Students will use desktop publishing<br />
software to import and manipulate text<br />
and graphics to create brochures, fyers,<br />
pamphlets and other documents. They will<br />
also learn the elements of good design,<br />
creating and using templates, libraries,<br />
and style sheets, and the use of color.<br />
