This fnal course of the nursing program,<br />
provides students the opportunity to<br />
fully integrate their previous learning<br />
from courses in nursing, behavioral and<br />
biological sciences, and the humanities.<br />
The course focuses on maintenance of<br />
health, related to care of clients with<br />
neurosensory dysfunction, gastrointestinal<br />
dysfunction, metabolic dysfunction, and<br />
alteration in body image. Care of the<br />
child will also be integrated. Students<br />
gain experience in assuming the nurse’s<br />
role of communicator, care provider,<br />
client teacher, manager of client care,<br />
and member of the nursing profession.<br />
Students will explore the professional<br />
and personal adjustments required for a<br />
successful transition from the student to<br />
the graduate nurse role. Prerequisites: NU<br />
101, NU 102, NU 201, BI 130, BI 131,<br />
BI 210, EN 101, MA 102 or MA 110, PY<br />
101, PY 201 and SO 101. Corequisites:<br />

Pe 103—foundations of Physical<br />
education<br />
Introduces students to the nature,<br />
scope, and future of physical education<br />
and sport. The course addresses in an<br />
evolutionary yet progressive manner the<br />
history of physical education, its scientifc<br />
foundation, programs, professional<br />
considerations, and leadership<br />
requirements. Attention will be given<br />
to current issues that have an impact<br />
on the feld of physical education, such<br />
as sexism, programs for handicapped,<br />
exercise physiology, sociological trends,<br />
and curriculum development. Future<br />

directions of physical education will be<br />
examined in depth. (3 semester hours) Fall<br />
Pe 104—Coaching theory<br />
Explores the profession of coaching in<br />
organized sports. Topics will include<br />
professional preparation, relationships with<br />
athletes, the role of the coach, preparing<br />
the athlete for competition, and motivation<br />
techniques. (3 semester hours) Spring<br />
Pe 111—outdoor Activities<br />
An outdoor course involving a variety<br />
of activities which may include hiking,<br />
back packing, camping, canoeing, and<br />
challenge course elements. Other activities<br />
such as snow-shoeing and kayaking<br />
will depend upon appropriate weather<br />
conditions. (1 semester hour) Fall/Summer<br />
Pe 112—Canoeing/Kayaking<br />
An introductory course designed to give<br />
participants the opportunity to acquire<br />
skills and knowledge in open-water<br />
canoeing and kayaking. Topics will<br />
include paddling, navigating techniques,<br />
small craft equipment selection, water<br />
safety, route planning and relevant<br />
physical conditioning information.<br />
Prerequisite: Basic swimming ability. (1<br />
semester hour) Summer<br />
Pe 116—self-defense and Anti-violence<br />
education<br />
Self-defense for populations especially<br />
at risk for violence will be studied. This<br />
course offers a sound foundation in basic<br />
self-defense including physical skills<br />
(blocks, strikes, releases), verbal and<br />
evasive strategies, legal protections, and<br />
accessing of community resources. (1<br />
semester hour) Spring<br />
PE 118—Physical Fitness for law<br />
enforcement<br />
This course is designed to acquaint students<br />
with information regarding physical ftness<br />
requirements for employment in law<br />
enforcement. This course will give students<br />
