<strong>Community</strong> services<br />

The Offce of <strong>Community</strong> Services<br />

provides varied educational, vocational,<br />

personal interest, and cultural<br />

opportunities. The program, one of the<br />

most innovative in the State University<br />

system, strives to meet the lifelong<br />

learning and personal enrichment needs of<br />

area residents, both youngsters and adults,<br />

by offering noncredit courses, training<br />

programs, workshops, camps, community<br />

events, and a highly acclaimed concert/<br />

lecture program, which is part of the<br />

Gemini Series. For more information, call<br />

noncredit Courses<br />

The noncredit program provides a wide<br />

array of courses and workshops intended to<br />

meet the personal enrichment and lifelong<br />

learning needs of the general public. Areas<br />

of instruction include arts and crafts,<br />

computer literacy and software application<br />

skills, personal fnance, health and personal<br />

development, professional development<br />

and topics of special interest such as music<br />

and dance, defensive driving, foreign<br />

language, motorcycle and boating safety,<br />

and outdoor activities. The noncredit<br />

program operates throughout the year.<br />

The program provides opportunities for<br />

collaboration with business, community<br />

organizations, government agencies<br />

and area professionals. Accessible and<br />

affordable, noncredit classes can be<br />

scheduled at community locations as well<br />

as on the college campus.<br />

training for Business<br />

and industry<br />

The <strong>Community</strong> Services Offce<br />

administers the college’s quality-driven<br />

training programs. The mission of these<br />

programs is to assist organizations to<br />

achieve peak effectiveness by providing<br />

employees, at all levels, with practical<br />

tools and insights that enable them to<br />

be more productive. The Business and<br />

Industry Program is committed to working<br />

closely with company managers to<br />

achieve effective customized assessment,<br />

training, scheduling and organizational<br />

development services.<br />

In addition, the <strong>Community</strong> Services<br />

Offce works cooperatively with<br />

the SUNY Workforce Development<br />

Training Grants Program, Empire State<br />

Development, The New York State<br />

Department of Labor, The Workforce<br />

Investment Board of <strong>Columbia</strong> and<br />

<strong>Greene</strong> Counties, and other workforce<br />

development programs to access resources<br />

that meet specifc goals.<br />

A brochure detailing specifc training<br />

options is available by request from the<br />

Offce of <strong>Community</strong> Services.<br />

Workforce new York<br />

The Workforce Investment Board of<br />

<strong>Columbia</strong> & <strong>Greene</strong> Counties has<br />

certifed the college, along with the NYS<br />

Department of Labor, as a Workforce<br />

New York agency. As such, the Workforce<br />

Investment Offce is responsible for<br />

providing residents of <strong>Columbia</strong> and<br />

<strong>Greene</strong> Counties with a One-Stop Delivery<br />

System for a variety of federal and state<br />

educational support and employment<br />

assistance programs. These programs are<br />

designed to assist residents with fnding<br />

appropriate employment opportunities<br />

through services ranging from job search<br />

assistance, to career planning, to funding<br />

for occupational training programs.<br />

All job seekers in the two counties can<br />

use the Career Center located in the<br />

Professional Academic Center. This
