Matriculated students who withdraw from<br />

all courses must apply for readmission and<br />

meet any new curriculum requirements in<br />

effect at the date of readmission.<br />

indePendent stUdY<br />

Independent study is a form of learning<br />

whereby a faculty member and the student<br />

cooperatively design a written contract<br />

equivalent to college-level study within a<br />

specifc discipline.<br />

1. Students must have completed at least<br />

12 semester hours with a minimum<br />

grade point average of 3.0 from an<br />

accredited college.<br />

2. Transfer students must supply offcial<br />

transcripts to verify grade point<br />

average.<br />

3. Independent study will be under the<br />

supervision of a faculty member<br />

affliated with <strong>Columbia</strong>-<strong>Greene</strong><br />

<strong>Community</strong> <strong>College</strong>.<br />

4. An independent study cannot be<br />

substituted for a course in the catalog.<br />

It will appear on the transcript with a<br />

course title and code identifying it as<br />

an independent study.<br />

5. A student may take only one<br />

independent study per semester and a<br />

maximum of three at C-<strong>GCC</strong>.<br />

6. Each hour of credit should refect a<br />

minimum of 45 hours of work.<br />

7. To register, a student must hand in<br />

a completed contract approved and<br />

signed in the following order: the<br />

student, the faculty, the registrar, the<br />

division chairperson, and the Vice<br />

President and Dean of Academic<br />

Affairs.<br />

8. Deadline for registration and<br />

completion of projects will follow the<br />

regular college calendar as published in<br />

the current catalog.<br />

of the Vice President and Dean of<br />

AnnUAL notifiCAtion to stUdents<br />

The Family Educational Rights and<br />

Privacy Act (FERPA) affords eligible<br />

students certain rights with respect to<br />

their education records. (An “eligible<br />

student” under FERPA is a student who is<br />

18 years of age or older or who attends a<br />

postsecondary institution.) These rights<br />

include:<br />

1. The right to inspect and review the student’s<br />

education records within 45 days<br />

after the day <strong>Columbia</strong>-<strong>Greene</strong> <strong>Community</strong><br />

<strong>College</strong> (hereafter, the “college”)<br />

receives a request for access. A<br />

student should submit to the Registrar<br />

a written request that identifes the<br />

record(s) the student wishes to inspect.<br />

The Registrar will make arrangements<br />

for access and notify the student of the<br />

time and place where the records may<br />

be inspected.<br />

2. The right to request the amendment of<br />

the student’s education records that the<br />

student believes is inaccurate, misleading,<br />

or otherwise in violation of the student’s<br />

privacy rights under FERPA.<br />

A student who wishes to ask the college<br />

to amend a record should write the<br />

Registrar, clearly identify the part of the<br />

record the student wants changed, and<br />

specify why it should be changed.<br />

If the college decides not to amend<br />

the record as requested, the college<br />

will notify the student in writing of
