Academic and student services<br />
Academic support Center<br />
Located in spacious quarters opposite the<br />
campus library, the Academic Support<br />
Center provides student support services<br />
that include software and hardware to<br />
supplement many areas of academic<br />
instruction. Services are provided through<br />
computer classrooms, alternative learning<br />
classrooms, computer labs, study and<br />
testing areas, and include peer and<br />
professional tutoring, test-review sessions,<br />
make-up testing, and access to software<br />
utilized by most of the academic divisions<br />
on campus.<br />
The Academic Support Center has PCs<br />
available for academic use. Enrichment<br />
and supplemental A/V resources are<br />
on-hand for many academic areas. Staff<br />
members are available to assist students<br />
with computers and other equipment.<br />
Study skills workshops and learning<br />
strategies assistance are also provided.<br />
Academic Support Center hours are<br />
8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through<br />
Thursday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Friday, 9<br />
a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, and 1 p.m. to 5<br />
p.m. Sunday during the academic year.<br />
Tutoring schedules are advertised at the<br />
Center’s main desk, entranceways, and on<br />
various announcement boards on campus.<br />
Summer hours, as well as holiday and<br />
semester break schedules, are posted at the<br />
Center’s main desk, and on the webpage,<br />
as needed.<br />
testing in the Academic support Center<br />
The Academic Support Center administers<br />
the college placement test, DSST<br />
(DANTES Subject Standardized Tests),<br />
and C-<strong>GCC</strong> challenge examinations. The<br />
ASC also serves as an Open Test Center<br />
for students residing in <strong>Columbia</strong> and<br />
<strong>Greene</strong> counties enrolled in a Distance<br />
Learning program elsewhere.<br />

This service is offered twice a month.<br />
Call the ASC at 518-828-4181 (Ext. 3235)<br />
for the schedule and to make arrangements<br />
for a proctored exam. We encourage early<br />
sign-up as the ASC reserves the right to<br />
stop taking appointments for a particular<br />
date once the session is flled. There is<br />
limited space for on-line testing.<br />
A non-refundable $25 sitting fee is<br />
required to reserve a testing slot. <strong>Current</strong><br />
C-<strong>GCC</strong> students may take a DANTES test<br />
in the ASC without paying a sitting fee.<br />
Testers must bring some form of picture<br />
identifcation on the day of the test.<br />
Library and media services<br />
The two-story college library is located<br />
at the north end of the Main Building.<br />
It occupies 15,900 square feet and has a<br />
seating capacity for more than 100.<br />
The library is fully computerized,<br />
providing networking within the SUNY<br />
system. The open-shelf system permits<br />
easy access to the library’s collection of<br />
over 60,000 bound volumes and over 200<br />
current microflm and paper subscriptions<br />
to magazines and newspapers. There is<br />
also a large collection of back issues of<br />
periodicals on microflm.<br />
In addition to the book and periodical<br />
collection, resources include subscriptions<br />
to a number of online databases. These<br />
databases provide access to indexes of<br />
magazine, journal, and newspaper articles,<br />
some of which are available in full text.<br />
Information materials are available at the<br />
circulation desk, including the circulation<br />
policy, a periodical directory, and guides<br />
to research.<br />
