2009 – 2013 FINA SYNCHRONISED SWIMMING MANUALFOR JUDGES, COACHES & REFEREESSECTION IIIHandbook Description Basic Position Basic Move Desired Actionse) completed by a ContinuousSpin of 1080◦ (3 rotations) in thesame direction as the Half Twist.Half Twist, Twirl and ContinuousSpin to be executed in a VerticalPosition.Continuous Spin(BM13f)1. A Spin is arotation in a VerticalPosition. (BP6)2. The body remainson its longitudinalaxis throughout therotation.3. Unless otherwisestated, Spins areexecuted in uniformmotion.4. A descending Spinmust start at theheight of the verticaland be completed asthe heel(s) reach(es)the surface.5. A Continuous Spinis a descending Spinwith a rapid rotationof: 720° (2), 1080°(3), or 1440° (4)which is completedas the heels reachthe surface andcontinues throughsubmergence.1. See the desired actions of the VerticalPosition (BP6) in b) above.2. Height and locked position attained before thespin begins.3. The longitudinal axis runs through the center ofthe body and is perpendicular to the surface ofthe water. On-the-spot rotation around this axis(no traveling).4. Stability and vertical alignment before, duringand at completion of the designated rotation.5. Simultaneous rotation and descent of thebody, with even drop spaces, to complete thespin as the heels reach the surface.6. Amount of rotation of 1080° Spins must beexact.7. A Continuous Spin must achieve and maintaina fast rotation throughout. Each rotation shouldbe the same rapid speed.8. When a Spin is more or less than the amountspecified, the judge shall take it intoconsideration when awarding a score. A penaltyshall be applied only when the error results in adifferent Spin as defined in the FINA Handbook.ScoresCriteriaStable HeightDesign,Position,Axis Rotation9 to 9.9 8 to 8.9 7 to 7.9 6 to 6.9 5 to 5.9Excellent/NearPerfectUpper mid thigh.Very precise, controlled, solid axismaintained (notraveling).Very Good Good Competent SatisfactoryMaintainedbetween upperthighand midthigh.Minor deviationin design.
