Pr<strong>in</strong>ciples <strong>of</strong> AACC are to: 1) Facilitate communication between farmers and other stakeholders/partners; 2)Provide free source <strong>of</strong> <strong>in</strong>formation to ALSC and farmers through website, pr<strong>in</strong>ted materials, and othercommunication tools; and 3) Facilitate ALSC and farmers <strong>in</strong> Aceh to access services provided by BBAP(Information, technical, disease diagnosis, and tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g). At this stage, AACC provides four major services and willgradually develop and improve the services <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g;Information Services:Provid<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>formation on market access; product prices, suppliers (hatchery, feed, agro <strong>in</strong>put supplies). Latestarticles/ <strong>in</strong>formation related to sea food bus<strong>in</strong>ess <strong>in</strong>ternally and externally. Regular dissem<strong>in</strong>ation <strong>of</strong> updated newsand practical <strong>in</strong>formation about aquaculture has been <strong>in</strong>itiated.This <strong>in</strong>formation can be accessed through the AACC website, brochures, poster and newsletters. The <strong>in</strong>teractivewebsite, “Jar<strong>in</strong>gan Petambak Aceh” (<strong>Network</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Aquaculture</strong> Farmers <strong>in</strong> Aceh; www.tambak.org) will providepractical <strong>in</strong>formation and materials for aquaculture farmers, cover<strong>in</strong>g market <strong>in</strong>formation, extension materials,bus<strong>in</strong>ess directories and others developed based on the needs identified by participation <strong>of</strong> the farmersthemselves. AACC provide onl<strong>in</strong>e consultation and communication with ALSCs call<strong>in</strong>g system onl<strong>in</strong>e (Voice overInternet - Skype) for immediate feedback and technical advices.Technical <strong>in</strong>formation service:This service provides all technical aspect on aquaculture; <strong>in</strong>formation and technical consultation. Normally ALSCcommittee members provide the required services if with<strong>in</strong> their capacity and experience. However, requestsbeyond their capacity are forwarded to AACC or another appropriate <strong>in</strong>stitution for technical assistance. As well,regular <strong>in</strong>formation on new technologies is dissem<strong>in</strong>ated to ALSCs to keep the farmers updated on the recentdevelopment <strong>in</strong> susta<strong>in</strong>able aquaculture practices. The <strong>in</strong>formation service is underutilized at present be<strong>in</strong>g newlyestablished but records are kept <strong>of</strong> enquiries and these show a grow<strong>in</strong>g trend <strong>in</strong> the number <strong>of</strong> enquiries. TheAACC must prove its capability to the farmers <strong>in</strong> order that the demand for the services grows.Disease Diagnose Service:AACC facilitates the farmers through ALSC to access laboratory facilities at BBAP centre for disease diagnosis.The diagnoses results and recommendations are sent back to ALSC rapidly to be effective and applicable.Established protocols and standard operation procedures for sample collection for water quality and diseasediagnosis are provided to farmers. F<strong>in</strong>e tun<strong>in</strong>g <strong>of</strong> protocols and SOP for aquaculture practices <strong>in</strong> Aceh will befurther improved as development progresses. In case <strong>of</strong> serious disease outbreak, AACC staff will visit andprovide practical field level solutions to farmers through meet<strong>in</strong>gs and this <strong>in</strong>formation will be dissem<strong>in</strong>ated toother areas for prevention <strong>of</strong> further spread <strong>of</strong> such diseases.<strong>Tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g</strong> Services:AACC conducts tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g based on identified needs <strong>of</strong> Aceh farmer communities through ALSCs or when newtechnologies become available and are ready for dissem<strong>in</strong>ation. The tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g may focus on technical aspects,bus<strong>in</strong>ess management, and other capacity build<strong>in</strong>g topics through lectures and/or hands-on tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g. Fordeliberation <strong>of</strong> services, AACC cooperate with tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g providers, such as extension unit <strong>of</strong> BBAP or othergovernment <strong>in</strong>stitutes, as well as the other parts <strong>of</strong> the private sector.Effectiveness <strong>of</strong> the ALSC-AACC model• There is grow<strong>in</strong>g close coord<strong>in</strong>ation and collaboration between farmers at the sub-district and district levels.Consider<strong>in</strong>g the history <strong>of</strong> the area this itself is a breakthrough.
