SUMMARY
With a 20-16 comeback win in Week 10 over the Miami Dolphins
the Lions improved to 7-2 on the season, matching the team’s best
nine-game start to the season since 1993 (7-2). Detroit would get
out to a quick start after a fake punt on fourth down that extended
their first possession of the game. Lions K Matt Prater knocked
in a 26-yard field goal to give the Lions a 3-0 lead. With less than
five minutes to play in the first quarter Detroit would strike again.
Lions QB Matthew Stafford connected with WR Calvin Johnson on
a 49-yard pass to put Detroit up 10-0. The Dolphins would respond
when K Caleb Sturgis nailed a 23-yard field goal, making the score
10-3 heading into the half. In the third quarter Miami would gain
all the momentum. After another field goal by Sturgis, this time
a 50-yarder, QB Ryan Tannehill hooked up with WR Mike Wallace
on a three-yard pass to give the Dolphins a 13-10 lead. With less
than 13 minutes to play, Prater would make a 50-yard field goal
to tie the game. Miami responded when Sturgis connected on
another field goal, giving the Dolphins a 16-13 lead. Down 16-13
with 3:13 left to play, Stafford led the team on an 11-play 74-yard
drive that was capped off with an 11-yard touchdown pass to RB
Theo Riddick. Stafford now has 11 game-winning 4th quarter or OT
drives with less than 2:00 to play in regulation.
SUMMARY
The Detroit Lions saw their four game winning streak come to an
end in Week 11 against the Arizona Cardinals. Arizona would strike
first when QB Drew Stanton connected with WR Malcolm Floyd on
a 42 yard-pass to put the Cardinals up 7-0. With less than seven
minutes to play in the first quarter the Cardinals scored again as
Stanton and Floyd hooked up for 12-yard score to put Arizona up
14-0. The Lions would respond with a score of their own when
K Matt Prater converted on a 50-yard field goal to bring Detroit
within 11. With less than a minute to go before the half Detroit
scored again when Prater hit a 28-yard field goal to bring the score
to 14-6. The second half of the game was all defense with neither
of the teams allowing any points to be scored. The Lions only
allowed 46 yards rushing and LB DeAndre Levy would lead the
team with a team-high 10 tackles.
