A speedy and tenacious corner, Lawson joined a blossoming crop of young Lions defensive backs in 2014 after coming to
Detroit as the team’s fourth-round (133rd overall) draft pick following a successful four-year career at Utah State.
2014: Began the 2014 season in a backup cornerback role and had one solo tackle vs. New York Giants (9/8), filling in for
injured CB Bill Bentley.
‣ ¾ Played in Week 2 at Carolina (9/14) in a backup corner role but left the game with a foot injury in the third quarter.
‣ ¾ Was placed on Reserve/Injured with a foot injury on September 16.
COLLEGE
2013: Concluded his career at Utah State by playing in all 14 games (13 starts) and earning his first-career First Team
All-Mountain West selection. His 57 tackles (33 solo), four interceptions (65 yards) and 13 pass defenses earned him the
Mountain West Defensive Player of the Week award twice against Boise State (10/12) and UNLV (11/9).
‣ ¾ Finished the year ranked first on the team in pass defenses (13), and his 13 pass breakups and four interceptions ranked
first and second on the team, respectively.
‣ ¾ Picked off a career-high two passes in the game against Boise State, returning one 65 yards for his first-career touchdown,
while adding a career-high five pass defenses and nine tackles.
‣ ¾ Forced a fumble against Fresno State in the Mountain West Championship game.
2012: As a junior, earned Second Team All-WAC honors after starting in all 13 games for the Aggies and finishing the season
with 63 tackles (47 solo), two sacks (17 yards) and 10 pass defenses.
‣ ¾ Recorded his first two sacks of his career at San Jose State (10/13) as Utah State went on to set a single-game school
record with 13 sacks in the contest.
‣ ¾ Had five or more tackles in nine games during the season, including a season-high eight at San Jose State.
PERSONAL
A two-year starter at both cornerback and running back at Piper (Fla.) High School, Lawson was named Second Team
All-Broward County in his final prep season. As a senior, posted 68 tackles and three interceptions on defense, as well as
41 carries for 526 yards and eight touchdowns on offense. Also had two punt returns for touchdowns on special teams.
‣ ¾ Named team MVP as a senior and was selected to the Broward County North-South All-Star Game, where he recorded
eight tackles and did not allow a pass reception.
‣ ¾ Also lettered in track as a sprinter in high school.
‣ ¾ Graduated from Utah State with a degree in interdisciplinary studies, emphasizing in health and wellness.
‣ ¾ Son of Clive and Jennifer Lawson.
