The Lions’ third-round pick (80th overall) in the <strong>2015</strong> NFL Draft, Carter joins a blossoming young group of Lions cornerbacks<br />

led by CB Darius Slay following a successful-three year career at Stanford.<br />

COLLEGE<br />

Played three years as one of the Cardinal’s top defensive backs, entering the NFL Draft following his junior season in 2014.<br />

Started 33-of-40 games in his career and finished with 146 total tackles (106 solo), two interceptions, 18 pass defenses<br />

and five forced fumbles.<br />

2014: Started 12-of-13 games to close out his college career as a junior and amassed 41 tackles (33 solo), 10 pass defenses,<br />

one interception and one forced fumble. Earned All-Pac 12 Honorable Mention honors and was a Phil Steele Third Team All<br />

Pac-12 selection. Named to the Bednarik Award and Nagurski Award watch lists.<br />

‣ ¾ Recorded four tackles and one forced fumble vs. Army.<br />

‣ ¾ Had a season-high five solo tackles and one pass breakup at Washington.<br />

‣ ¾ Totaled three tackles (one for loss) and his first-career interception vs. Arizona State.<br />

2012: As a true freshman, earned Pac-12 Honorable Mention honors after playing in all 14 games, including starts in the<br />

last eight contests at cornerback. Led the defense with three forced fumbles and finished the season with 46 tackles (34<br />

solo) and three tackles for loss. Also logged five kickoff returns for 110 yards.<br />

‣ ¾ Notched his first-career tackle for loss and first-career forced fumble at Notre Dame.<br />

‣ ¾ Took over starting cornerback duties in week seven at California. Totaled four solo tackles in his first-career start.<br />

‣ ¾ Had a season-high seven tackles (three solo) in Stanford’s Rose Bowl win over Wisconsin.<br />

PERSONAL<br />

Graduated from Briar Woods (Va.) High School and played under head coach Charlie Pierce, where he was a four-star recruit<br />

per ESPN, Rivals and Scout. Ranked as the nation’s fourth-best safety prospect by Rivals, ninth by Scout and was Virginia’s<br />

2011 Gatorade State Player of the Year and AA Defensive Player of the Year. Also earned all-state and all-region honors<br />

as a defensive back and kick returner in 2011.<br />

‣ ¾ Recorded 50 tackles, five interceptions (one returned for a touchdown), as well as 1,000 all-purpose yards on offense<br />

as a senior.<br />

‣ ¾ Participated in the 2011 U.S. Army All-American and International Bowls.<br />

‣ ¾ Also lettered in track and field at Briar Woods.<br />

‣ ¾ Son of Tom and Renee Carter. Father played at Notre Dame and was a first-round draft selection by the Washington<br />

Redskins in 1993.<br />
