SUMMARY
In Week 13 vs. the Chicago Bears the Detroit Lions hosted their
75th Thanksgiving game. The Lions ended their two game losing
streak with a dominating 34-17 performance over the Bears.
Chicago would jump out to an early lead when QB Jay Cutler and
WR Alshon Jeffrey connected on a 10-yard pass to put the Bears
up 7-0. Detroit would respond with a score of their own when K
Matt Prater converted on a 46-yard field goal. Cutler and Jeffrey
hooked up for the second time of the day, this time on a six-yard
pass to put Chicago up 14-3. With less than 13 minutes to play in
the second quarter, QB Matthew Stafford found WR Calvin Johnson
on 4th-and-1 with less than four minutes to play, while Lions RB
Joique Bell then found the end zone for his first score of the day
to give Detroit the 17-14 lead. Detroit would not look back from
there. With less than a minute to go in the first half, Stafford and
Johnson would find the end zone again, this time on a six-yard
score to extend Detroit’s lead to 24-14 at the half. Chicago’s K
Robbie Gould chipped away at the Lions’ lead with a 35-yard field
goal in the third, which cut the deficit to seven, but the Lions
would answer back when Bell grabbed his second score of the
day. Prater capped off the scoring with a 40-yard field goal in the
fourth to give the Lions a 34-17 lead that they would hold on to.
With 146 receiving yards against Chicago, Johnson surpassed
10,000 career yards and became the first player in Lions history
with 10,000 yards.
