SERIES NOTES
‣ ¾The Lions and Titans have hooked
up 11 times in the regular season
with Tennessee holding a 8-3 lead.
The Lions were 2-3 in Houston and
1-2 in the Pontiac Silverdome.
‣ ¾The Titans have won seven of the
last nine contests.
‣ ¾The teams first met October 17,
1971 in Houston, with the Lions
coming away with a 31-7 win.
‣ ¾The Titans, then the Oilers, put
a damper on Detroit’s 1992
Thanksgiving Day festivities with
a come-from-behind 24-21 win
over the Lions in the Silverdome
on November 26. Titans RB Lorenzo
White’s 8-yard touchdown scamper
with 1:17 remaining sealed the
Titans’ victory and ended Detroit’s
three-game Thanksgiving Day win
streak.
‣ ¾On December 10, 1995, QB Scott
Mitchell set the then-franchise
record for touchdown passes in
a season. QB Bobby Layne had
previously owned the record (26 in
1951). Mitchell completed the ’95
season with 32 touchdown passes.
Mitchell’s record has since been
broken by QB Matthew Stafford,
who tossed 41 touchdown passes
in 2011.
‣ ¾In the 2012 meeting between the
two teams, the Titans defeated
the Lions 44-41 in an overtime
thriller at LP Field. Lions QB Shaun
Hill connected on a last-second
46-yard Hail Mary pass to WR
Titus Young to send the game into
overtime, but Detroit was unable to
convert on a 4th-and-1 play in the
extra stanza as the Titans went on
to win the game.
