‣ ¾In the second game ever played<br />

at Ford Field, the Lions claimed<br />

a 26-21 win over New Orleans for<br />

the first win at the team’s new<br />

downtown Detroit home.<br />

‣ ¾The first game played between the<br />

Lions and Saints was a 20-20 tie<br />

on November 24, 1968 in Detroit.<br />

‣ ¾The home team has generally had<br />

the upper hand in the series with<br />

Detroit compiling a 6-3-1 mark at<br />

home (1-1 at Ford Field) while New<br />

Orleans has managed a 6-3 record<br />

at home (5-2 in the Superdome).<br />

‣ ¾In one of the NFL’s all-time<br />

amazing finishes, New Orleans K<br />

Tom Dempsey booted a 63-yard<br />

field goal as time expired to give<br />

the Saints a 19-17 victory in Tulane<br />

Stadium on November 8, 1970.<br />

Dempsey’s mighty boot stood<br />

alone as the longest field goal in<br />

NFL history until Denver’s Jason<br />

Elam tied the record on October<br />

25, 1998 vs. Jacksonville.<br />

‣ ¾The Lions’ Richard Johnson tallied<br />

248 yards receiving (second-in<br />

team history) on eight receptions<br />

and earned NFC Player of the Week<br />

honors in Detroit’s 21-14 win over<br />

the Saints on December 3, 1989.<br />

‣ ¾The Lions kicked off the 2000<br />

season by defeating the Saints 14-<br />

10 at the Superdome. The Lions’<br />

only touchdown of the game was<br />

courtesy of Desmond Howard’s<br />

franchise-record 95-yard punt<br />

return in the fourth quarter.<br />

‣ ¾K Jason Hanson nailed a 39-<br />

yard field goal as time expired in<br />

regulation that lifted the Lions to<br />

a 13-12 win over New Orleans in<br />

San Antonio December 14, 2005.<br />

The final drive was set up by a Roy<br />

Williams 40-yard grab on 4thand-17.<br />

Williams had four catches<br />

for 111 yards against the Saints,<br />

all in the fourth quarter.<br />

‣ ¾In the Lions’ first playoff game<br />

since 1999, QB Matthew Stafford<br />

set a single-game postseason<br />

franchise record with 380 yards<br />

passing, while WR Calvin Johnson<br />

posted franchise-bests in both<br />

receptions (12) and receiving yards<br />

(211) and tied a franchise record in<br />

receiving touchdowns (2) at New<br />

Orleans on January 7, 2012.<br />

‣ ¾The Lions beat the Saints 24-23<br />

in a dramatic comeback win in<br />

Week 7 in 2014 (10/19) as Stafford<br />

connected with WR Corey Fuller for<br />

a five-yard TD pass following a late<br />

interception from S. Glover Quin for<br />

the go-ahead score.<br />
