SERIES NOTES
‣ ¾The clubs have met just seven
times since the Colts moved to
Indianapolis in 1984.
‣ ¾On October 20, 1957, Bobby
Layne threw a 29-yard TD pass
to Howard “Hopalong” Cassady
with 46 seconds remaining in the
game as Detroit overcame a 27-10
fourth quarter deficit to defeat the
Colts 31-27 in one of the greatest
comebacks in team history.
‣ ¾In the 1997 meeting, a 32-10 Lions
win at the Silverdome, K Jason
Hanson became the franchise’s
first kicker to convert two 50-yard
field goals (52, 55) in a game.
RB Barry Sanders rushed for 216
yards, including an 80-yarder for a
touchdown. It was Sanders’ fourth
200-yard outing of his career.
‣ ¾In Detroit’s first visit to
Indianapolis’ Lucal Oil Stadium
on December 14, 2008, K Jason
Hanson connected on a 51-yard
field goal. His 51-yarder set a new
NFL record for 50-yard field goals
in a career (41) and it tied Morten
Andersen’s NFL record for 50-yard
field goals in a season (8). Hanson
was the first player in NFL history
to go 8-for-8 on 50-yard field goals
in a single season.
‣ ¾WR Calvin Johnson caught 13
passes for 171 yards and one
touchdown in the 2012 meeting,
tying an NFL record with fivestraight
games of 125+ receiving
yards (Lions WR Pat Studstill in
1966).
