SERIES NOTES
‣ ¾The Lions have dominated the
series against the Falcons,
amassing a 23-12 record. The
initial meeting took place at Tiger
Stadium on September 25, 1966,
Atlanta’s inaugural season, with
the Lions running away with a
28-10 win. The Lions are 14-5 at
home (5-0 in Tiger Stadium; 8-3 in
the Silverdome, 1-2 at Ford Field).
Detroit has won 10 of the last 16
games in the series.
‣ ¾The Lions winning-percentage
against the Falcons (.657) is their
highest among all NFC opponents
and their second highest among all
NFL opponents (Cleveland, .789).
‣ ¾The Lions and Falcons met in the
regular season opener or closer
seven times between 1985-94.
The two teams opened or closed
the season every year from 1985-
89, and met in the regular season
opener again in 1997.
‣ ¾Detroit was victorious 13-10 over
the Falcons on November 12,
2000 at the Pontiac Silverdome.
The contest marked the first game
and victory by Gary Moeller, who
replaced Bobby Ross as head coach
six days earlier.

37 passes against Atlanta
December 22, 2012, which is the
highest single-game tally in Lions
history. The previous record of 36
completions was shared by QB
Charlie Batch (at Ari, 11/8/01) and
Stafford (at GB, 1/1/12).
‣ ¾With 11 receptions for 225 yards
against the Falcons on December
22, 2012, WR Calvin Johnson set a
new NFL single-season record for
receiving yards (1,892) by breaking
Hall of Fame WR Jerry Rice’s 17-
year old mark of 1,848 in 1995.
‣ ¾In the team’s most recent meeting
(10/26/14), the Lions defeated
the Falcons on a last-second
field goal by K Matt Prater after
trailing 21-0 in the first half. QB
Matthew Stafford completed 24-
of-47 passes for 325 yards and
two touchdowns as he led the
Lions to a 22-21 comeback win vs.
Atlanta at Wembley Stadium in
London, England. On his 59-yard
touchdown pass to WR Golden Tate
in the third quarter, Stafford set the
franchise’s all-time career passing
touchdowns record with his 119th
career touchdown pass.
