The Philadelphia Eagles and Pittsburgh
Steelers merged for the 1943 season as a
wartime emergency measure.
SERIES NOTES
‣ ¾Detroit claimed victories in the
first four games of the series, with
each being a shutout. The Lions
also won seven of the first nine
meetings.
‣ ¾The Lions’ defense had three
takeaways that helped Detroit’s
offense score three touchdowns
and grab a commanding 24-0
halftime lead over the Eagles,
before defeating Philadelphia 38-
10 in the 1961 Playoff Bowl.
‣ ¾The Lions’ last tie in a regular
season game was against the
Eagles (23-23) November 4, 1984,
the only tie in Silverdome history.
‣ ¾In the Lions’ first visit to Lincoln
Financial Field (Sept. 23, 2007),
QB Jon Kitna set a then-franchise
record with 446 passing yards.
Kitna connected with WR Roy
Williams for a 91-yard TD, career
highs for both players. With 204
receiving yards, Williams’ career
high was the then third-highest
tally by a receiver in Lions history.
‣ ¾QB Matthew Stafford then led his
eighth-career game-winning drive
as the Lions defeated the Eagles,
26-23 in an overtime win that was
capped off by K Jason Hanson’s
45-yard game-winning field goal.
‣ ¾ With 49 receiving yards at
Philadelphia on December 8, 2013,
WR Calvin Johnson (9,184) broke
the Lions franchise record for career
receiving yards, surpassing WR
Herman Moore (9,174).
‣ ¾ WR Jeremy Ross became the second
player in Lions history to register a
punt return touchdown (58 yards)
and kickoff return touchdown
(98 yards) in the same game at
Philadelphia December 8, 2013. Ross
joins RB Eddie Payton (vs. Minnesota
December 17, 1977) as the only Lions
players to accomplish this feat.
