essere applicato alla soluzione di
problemi pratici, all’ottimizzazione
delle procedure, alla presa di
decisioni, alla scelta di strategie
finalizzate a determinati obiettivi.

La tecnologia è un fine o un mezzo? É ancora - come si
riteneva nel mondo antico – un trattato sistematico sulle
arti applicate, oppure è diventata una specie di gabbia
mentale? Da sempre nelle botteghe dell’artigiano come
in quelle dell’artista, si è praticata la ricerca di nuovi
procedimenti per piegare i materiali a risultati sino allora
impensabili. Oggi la tecnologia ha compiuto il miracolo
inatteso: unire il lavoro dell’artigiano a quello dell’artista
rendendo possibile la moltiplicazione teoricamente
infinita della bellezza. Ma poiché la tecnologia lasciata
a se stessa è cieca e muta, gli oggetti ben pensati
e ben fatti hanno bisogno di chi sa riconoscerli e,
riconoscendoli, li sceglie in modo elettivo. Solo così il
cerchio si chiude e la tecnologia ritrova la sua anima.
Is technology a means or an end? Is it still - as people used to think in the age of antiquity - a systematic
treaty on applied arts, or has it become a sort of mental cage? Attempts have always been made in craftsmen’s
workshops or in an artists’ studios to search for new processes to bend materials, with pioneering results.
Today, technology has achieved an unexpected miracle: combining the craftsman’s job with that of the artist,
making the theoretically infinite multiplication of beauty possible. But since technology in itself is blind and
dumb, well designed and well made objects need people who know how to recognise them and, in recognising
them, select them by choice. This is the only way the circle is completed and technology rediscovers its soul.
Ist die Technologie ein Zweck oder ein Mittel? Und dann - so wie in der Antike angenommen - eine
systematische Abhandlung über angewandte Kunst oder handelt es sich um eine Art mentalen Käfig? Seit jeher
wird in den Werkstätten der Handwerker und der Künstler nach neuen Verfahren gesucht, um die Werkstoffe
zu bisher undenkbaren Ergebnissen zu verarbeiten. Heute hat die Technologie ein unerwartetes Wunder
vollbracht: Die Verbindung der Arbeit des Handwerkers mit der des Künstlers ermöglicht rein theoretisch die
unendliche Vervielfältigung der Schönheit. Aber da die Technologie, wenn sie sich selbst überlassen bleibt,
blind und stumm ist, brauchen gut durchdachte und geschickt hergestellte Gegenstände auch jemanden, der
sie erkennt und der sie dank dieser Anerkennung bewusst auswählt. Nur so kann der Kreis geschlossen werden
und die Technologie findet zu ihrer Seele zurück.
La technologie est-elle une fin ou un moyen ? Est-elle encore - comme dans le monde antique - un traité
systématique sur les arts appliqués ou est-elle devenue une sorte de cage mentale ? Depuis toujours, dans
leur atelier, l’artisan ou l’artiste a recherché de nouveaux procédés pour plier les matériaux afin d’obtenir des
résultats jusqu’alors impensables. Aujourd’hui, la technologie a exécuté le miracle inattendu: unir le travail
de l’artisan à celui de l’artiste pour permettre la multiplication théoriquement infinie de la beauté. Mais
puisque la technologie laissée à elle-même est aveugle et muette, les objets bien pensés et bien faits ont besoin
de personnes en mesure de les reconnaître et, par conséquent, de les choisir de façon élective après les avoir
reconnus. Ce n’est que de cette façon que le cercle se ferme et que la technologie retrouve son âme.
