MEDICAL ADVISORY REVIEW PANEL<br />

Kyra J. Becker, M.D., is codirector <strong>of</strong> the University<br />

<strong>of</strong> Washington Stroke Center in Seattle,<br />

Washington. She is also an associate pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong><br />

neurology <strong>and</strong> neurological surgery at the University<br />

<strong>of</strong> Washington School <strong>of</strong> <strong>Medicine</strong>. Dr. Becker<br />

provides patient care through her practice at Harborview<br />

Medical Center <strong>and</strong> is a primary investigator<br />

on several stroke-related research studies.<br />

Dr. Becker received her bachelor <strong>of</strong> science<br />

(B.S.) degree in biology summa cum laude from Virginia<br />

Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia, <strong>and</strong> her doctor<br />

<strong>of</strong> medicine (M.D.) degree from Duke University<br />

School <strong>of</strong> <strong>Medicine</strong> in Durham, North Carolina.<br />

She completed her internship in internal medicine,<br />

residency in neurology, <strong>and</strong> clinical fellowship<br />

in critical care neurology all at Johns Hopkins<br />

Hospital in Baltimore, Maryl<strong>and</strong>. Dr. Becker is<br />

board-certified in neurology <strong>and</strong> psychiatry with a<br />

special certification in vascular neurology.<br />

James C. Blair, III, PA-C, is director <strong>of</strong> Madrona<br />

Hill Urgent Care Center in Port Townsend, Washington.<br />

Mr. Blair is a physician assistant certified<br />

with special recognition in primary care <strong>and</strong> surgery.<br />

He is an advanced cardiac life support<br />

(ACLS) instructor <strong>and</strong> has worked much <strong>of</strong> his<br />

career to provide emergency services in small hospitals<br />

<strong>and</strong> clinical care settings in rural communities.<br />

Mr. Blair received his associate <strong>of</strong> science<br />

degree in nursing from Wenatchee Valley College<br />

in Wenatchee, Washington, <strong>and</strong> completed the<br />

MEDEX Northwest Physician Assistant Program at<br />

the University <strong>of</strong> Washington School <strong>of</strong> <strong>Medicine</strong><br />

in Seattle, Washington.<br />

Alexa Fleckenstein, M.D., writes books <strong>and</strong> conducts<br />

lectures <strong>and</strong> workshops about natural health<br />

topics. Educated in Germany <strong>and</strong> the United States,<br />

she has extensive experience in natural therapies<br />

<strong>and</strong> integrative medicine. Dr. Fleckenstein is boardcertified<br />

in internal medicine.<br />

Dr. Fleckenstein received her medical degree<br />

from Universität Hamburg, Germany. She completed<br />

her internship <strong>and</strong> residency in primary<br />

care medicine at Carney Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts,<br />

<strong>and</strong> a fellowship in ambulatory medicine<br />

at VA Brockton, Massachusetts. Her<br />

subspecialty certification in natural medicine is<br />

from Ärztekammer Hamburg (German Board).<br />

Nancy A. Lewis, Pharm.D., is a clinical pharmacist<br />

<strong>and</strong> medical science liaison for MGI<br />

Pharma, Inc., a biopharmaceutical company specializing<br />

in oncology <strong>and</strong> acute care products. Dr.<br />

Lewis frequently conducts workshops <strong>and</strong> focused<br />

training presentations. She is an active member <strong>of</strong><br />

the Washington-Alaska Cancer Pain Initiative.<br />

Dr. Lewis received her bachelor <strong>of</strong> science<br />

(B.S.) in pharmacy <strong>and</strong> her doctor <strong>of</strong> pharmacy<br />

(Pharm.D.) degrees from the University <strong>of</strong> Washington<br />

in Seattle, Washington. She serves on the<br />

clinical faculty at the University <strong>of</strong> Washington in<br />

Seattle, Washington <strong>and</strong> on the adjunct faculty at<br />

Washington State University in Pullman, Washington.<br />

Gary R. McClain, Ph.D., is a psychologist, counselor,<br />

<strong>and</strong> consultant in New York City. Dr. McClain<br />

has more than 25 years <strong>of</strong> experience as a mental<br />

health pr<strong>of</strong>essional <strong>and</strong> in the business world. The<br />

focus <strong>of</strong> his practice is healthcare <strong>and</strong> wellness.<br />

Dr. McClain’s graduate studies were in clinical<br />

psychology <strong>and</strong> education, with a focus on adult<br />

personality development <strong>and</strong> learning. He<br />

received his doctor <strong>of</strong> philosophy (Ph.D.) from the
