We rest <strong>the</strong> foundation <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Sabbatic<br />

institution upon its sanctification before <strong>the</strong> fall <strong>of</strong><br />

man; <strong>the</strong> fourth comm<strong>and</strong>ment is its great citadel<br />

<strong>of</strong> defense; its place in <strong>the</strong> midst <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> moral law<br />

beneath <strong>the</strong> mercy-seat shows its relation to <strong>the</strong><br />

atonement <strong>and</strong> its immutable obligation.<br />

this proposition. Thus <strong>the</strong> psalmist in an<br />

address to Jerusalem, uses <strong>the</strong> following<br />

language: "He giveth snow like wool; he<br />

scattereth <strong>the</strong> hoarfrost like ashes. He casteth<br />

forth his ice like morsels; who can st<strong>and</strong><br />

before his cold? He sendeth out his word, <strong>and</strong><br />

melteth <strong>the</strong>m; he causeth his wind to blow, <strong>and</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> waters flow. He showeth his word unto<br />
