bearing on <strong>the</strong> <strong>Sabbath</strong>. But <strong>the</strong> equal portion<br />

<strong>of</strong> each on <strong>the</strong> five days was not thus<br />

understood by Paul. He says: "But by an<br />

equality, that now at this time your abundance<br />

may be a supply for <strong>the</strong>ir want, that <strong>the</strong>ir<br />

abundance also may be a supply for your want;<br />

that <strong>the</strong>re may be equality; as it is written, He<br />

that ga<strong>the</strong>red much had nothing over; <strong>and</strong> he<br />

that had ga<strong>the</strong>red little had not lack."<br />

2Cor.8:14,15. And that <strong>the</strong> double portion on<br />

<strong>the</strong> sixth day was <strong>the</strong> act <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> people, is<br />

affirmed by Moses. He says that "on <strong>the</strong> sixth<br />

day <strong>the</strong>y ga<strong>the</strong>red twice as much bread." Verse<br />

6. By this three-fold miracle, occurring every<br />

week for forty years, <strong>the</strong> great Lawgiver<br />

distinguished his hallowed day. The people<br />

were <strong>the</strong>refore admirably prepared to listen to<br />

<strong>the</strong> fourth comm<strong>and</strong>ment enjoining <strong>the</strong><br />

observance <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> very day on which he had<br />

rested.<br />

7. The twelfth chapter <strong>of</strong> Exodus relates <strong>the</strong> origin<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Passover. It is in striking contrast with<br />
