sanctuary, <strong>and</strong> had no compassion upon young man<br />

or maiden, old man, or him that stooped for age: he<br />

gave <strong>the</strong>m all into his h<strong>and</strong>. And all <strong>the</strong> vessels <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> house <strong>of</strong> God, great <strong>and</strong> small, <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> treasures<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> house <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Lord, <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> treasures <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

kind, <strong>and</strong> <strong>of</strong> his princes; all <strong>the</strong>se he brought to<br />

Babylon, <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong>y burnt <strong>the</strong> house <strong>of</strong> God, <strong>and</strong><br />

brake down <strong>the</strong> wall <strong>of</strong> Jerusalem, <strong>and</strong> burnt all <strong>the</strong><br />

palaces <strong>the</strong>re<strong>of</strong> with fire, <strong>and</strong> destroyed all <strong>the</strong><br />

goodly vessels <strong>the</strong>re<strong>of</strong>. And <strong>the</strong>m that had escaped<br />

from <strong>the</strong> sword carried he away to Babylon; where<br />

<strong>the</strong>y were servants to him <strong>and</strong> his sons until <strong>the</strong><br />

reign <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> king <strong>of</strong> Persia." (2 Chron. 36:16-20)<br />

While <strong>the</strong> Hebrews were in captivity at<br />

Babylon, God made to <strong>the</strong>m an <strong>of</strong>fer <strong>of</strong> restoring<br />

<strong>the</strong>m to <strong>the</strong>ir own l<strong>and</strong> <strong>and</strong> giving <strong>the</strong>m again a city<br />

<strong>and</strong> a temple under circumstances <strong>of</strong> wonderful<br />

glory. (Eze. chapters 40-43) The condition <strong>of</strong> that<br />

<strong>of</strong>fer being disregarded, (Eze. 43:7-11) <strong>the</strong> <strong>of</strong>fered<br />

glory was never inherited by <strong>the</strong>m. In this <strong>of</strong>fer<br />

were several allusions to <strong>the</strong> <strong>Sabbath</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Lord,<br />
