From <strong>the</strong>m we learn that God regards <strong>the</strong><br />

sufferings <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> brute creation, <strong>and</strong> would<br />

have <strong>the</strong>m alleviated upon <strong>the</strong> <strong>Sabbath</strong>; how<br />

much more <strong>the</strong> distress <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> needs <strong>of</strong> his<br />

people, for whose refreshment <strong>and</strong> delight <strong>the</strong><br />

<strong>Sabbath</strong> was made.<br />

5. The number <strong>and</strong> variety <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>se allusions will<br />

surprise <strong>the</strong> inquirer.<br />

6. The law <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Passover certainly contemplated<br />

<strong>the</strong> arrival <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Hebrews in <strong>the</strong> promised l<strong>and</strong><br />

before its regular observance. Ex.12:25.<br />

Indeed, it was only once observed in <strong>the</strong><br />

wilderness: namely, in <strong>the</strong> year following <strong>the</strong>ir<br />

departure from Egypt; <strong>and</strong> after that, was<br />

omitted until <strong>the</strong>y entered <strong>the</strong> l<strong>and</strong> <strong>of</strong> Canaan.<br />

from <strong>the</strong> fact that no o<strong>the</strong>r instances are<br />

recorded, but because that circumcision was<br />

omitted during <strong>the</strong> whole period <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir<br />

sojourn in <strong>the</strong> wilderness; <strong>and</strong> without this<br />

ordinance <strong>the</strong> children would have been<br />

excluded from <strong>the</strong> Passover.<br />
