when <strong>the</strong>y are outcasts, that is, when <strong>the</strong>y are in<br />

<strong>the</strong>ir dispersion, promising to ga<strong>the</strong>r <strong>the</strong>m, <strong>and</strong><br />

o<strong>the</strong>rs, that is, <strong>the</strong> Gentiles, with <strong>the</strong>m. Of course<br />

<strong>the</strong> condition <strong>of</strong> being ga<strong>the</strong>red to God's holy<br />

mountain must be complied with, namely, to love<br />

<strong>the</strong> name <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Lord, to be his servants, <strong>and</strong> to<br />

keep <strong>the</strong> <strong>Sabbath</strong> from polluting it. 4. And hence it<br />

follows that <strong>the</strong> <strong>Sabbath</strong> is not a local institution,<br />

susceptible <strong>of</strong> being observed in <strong>the</strong> promised l<strong>and</strong><br />

alone, like <strong>the</strong> annual <strong>Sabbath</strong>s, (Deut. 28:64; Luke<br />

21:24) but one made for mankind <strong>and</strong> capable <strong>of</strong><br />

being observed by <strong>the</strong> outcasts <strong>of</strong> Israel when<br />

scattered in every l<strong>and</strong> under heaven.<br />

Isaiah again presents <strong>the</strong> <strong>Sabbath</strong>; <strong>and</strong> this he<br />

does in language most emphatically distinguishing<br />

it from all ceremonial institutions. Thus he says:--<br />

"If thou turn away thy foot from <strong>the</strong> <strong>Sabbath</strong>,<br />

from doing thy pleasure on my holy day; <strong>and</strong> call<br />

<strong>the</strong> <strong>Sabbath</strong> a delight, <strong>the</strong> holy <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Lord,<br />

honorable; <strong>and</strong> shalt honor him, not doing thine<br />

own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor<br />

speaking thine own words: <strong>the</strong>n shalt thou delight<br />
