manner <strong>of</strong> work; it shall be a statute forever<br />

throughout your generations in all your dwellings.<br />

It shall be unto you a <strong>Sabbath</strong> <strong>of</strong> rest, <strong>and</strong> ye shall<br />

afflict your souls: in <strong>the</strong> ninth day <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> month at<br />

even, from even unto even, shall ye celebrate your<br />

<strong>Sabbath</strong>." (Lev. 23:27-32; 16:29-31; Num. 29:7)<br />

The sixth <strong>and</strong> seventh <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>se annual <strong>Sabbath</strong>s<br />

were <strong>the</strong> fifteenth <strong>and</strong> twenty-second days <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

seventh month, that is, <strong>the</strong> first day <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> feast <strong>of</strong><br />

tabernacles, <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> day after its conclusion. Thus<br />

were <strong>the</strong>y enjoined by God:--<br />

"Also in <strong>the</strong> fifteenth day <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> seventh month,<br />

when ye have ga<strong>the</strong>red in <strong>the</strong> fruit <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> l<strong>and</strong>, ye<br />

shall keep a feast unto <strong>the</strong> Lord seven days; on <strong>the</strong><br />

first day shall be a <strong>Sabbath</strong>, <strong>and</strong> on <strong>the</strong> eighth day<br />

shall be <strong>Sabbath</strong>." (Lev. 23:39)<br />

Besides all <strong>the</strong>se, every seventh year was a<br />

<strong>Sabbath</strong> <strong>of</strong> rest unto <strong>the</strong> l<strong>and</strong>. The people might<br />

labor as usual in o<strong>the</strong>r business, but <strong>the</strong>y were<br />

forbidden to till <strong>the</strong> l<strong>and</strong>, that <strong>the</strong> l<strong>and</strong> itself might<br />

rest. ((Ex. 23:10, 11; Lev. 25:2-7)) After seven <strong>of</strong><br />
