"For <strong>the</strong>y that dwell at Jerusalem, <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir<br />

rulers, because <strong>the</strong>y knew him not, nor yet <strong>the</strong><br />

voices <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> prophets which are read every<br />

<strong>Sabbath</strong> day, <strong>the</strong>y have fulfilled <strong>the</strong>m in<br />

condemning him." (Verse 27)<br />

When Paul's discourse was concluded, we<br />

read:--<br />

"And when <strong>the</strong> Jews were gone out <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

synagogue, <strong>the</strong> Gentiles besought that <strong>the</strong>se words<br />

might be preached to <strong>the</strong>m <strong>the</strong> next <strong>Sabbath</strong>.[3]<br />

Now when <strong>the</strong> congregation was broken up, many<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Jews <strong>and</strong> religious proselytes followed Paul<br />

<strong>and</strong> Barnabas: who speaking to <strong>the</strong>m, persuaded<br />

<strong>the</strong>m to continue in <strong>the</strong> grace <strong>of</strong> God. And <strong>the</strong> next<br />

<strong>Sabbath</strong> day came almost <strong>the</strong> whole city toge<strong>the</strong>r to<br />

hear <strong>the</strong> word <strong>of</strong> God." (Verses 42-44)<br />

These texts show, 1. That by <strong>the</strong> term <strong>Sabbath</strong><br />

in <strong>the</strong> book <strong>of</strong> Acts is meant that day on which <strong>the</strong><br />

Jewish people assembled in <strong>the</strong> synagogue to listen<br />

to <strong>the</strong> voices <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> prophets. 2. That as this<br />

discourse was fourteen years after <strong>the</strong> resurrection<br />
