S<strong>and</strong>omir was chosen as the place of meet<strong>in</strong>g. The<br />

Synod met <strong>in</strong> the beg<strong>in</strong>n<strong>in</strong>g of April, 1570, <strong>and</strong><br />

was attended by the Protestant gr<strong>and</strong>ees <strong>and</strong> nobles<br />

of <strong>Pol<strong>and</strong></strong>, <strong>and</strong> by the m<strong>in</strong>isters of the <strong>Bohemia</strong>n,<br />

Reformed, <strong>and</strong> Lutheran Churches. After several<br />

days discussion it was found that the assembly was<br />

of one heart <strong>and</strong> m<strong>in</strong>d on all the fundamental<br />

doctr<strong>in</strong>es of the Gospel; <strong>and</strong> all agreement, entitled<br />

"Act of the Religious Union between the Churches<br />

of Great <strong>and</strong> Little <strong>Pol<strong>and</strong></strong>, Russia, Lithuania, <strong>and</strong><br />

Samogitia," was signed on the 14th of April,<br />

1570.[9]<br />

The subscribers place on the front of their<br />

famous document their unanimity <strong>in</strong> "the doctr<strong>in</strong>es<br />

about God, the Holy Tr<strong>in</strong>ity, the Incarnation of the<br />

Son of God, Justification, <strong>and</strong> other pr<strong>in</strong>cipal<br />

po<strong>in</strong>ts of the Christian religion." To give effect to<br />

this unanimity they "enter <strong>in</strong>to a mutual <strong>and</strong> sacred<br />

obligation to defend unanimously, <strong>and</strong> accord<strong>in</strong>g to<br />

the <strong>in</strong>junctions of the Word of God, this their<br />

covenant <strong>in</strong> the true <strong>and</strong> pure religion of Christ,<br />

aga<strong>in</strong>st the followers of the Roman Church, the<br />
