In rehabilitation centres, hospitals, and other health care settings, rehabilitation professionals assist
clients with self-care, promoting movement, improving function, and participating in vocational
and leisure activities. Through current theoretical knowledge and practical experiences, become
competent in supporting people whose ability to function has been impaired or compromised due to
injury, illness, or conditions affecting daily activities. Additional areas of instruction include respect
and caring for individuals’ uniqueness, effective communication, critical thinking, and decisionmaking.
To apply your learning to industry, participate in several fieldwork experiences in various
clinical settings with diverse client populations. You graduate with a well-rounded skill set that takes
you further.
Note: Due to the nature of the career, OTAs and PTAs are required to tolerate regular physical activity during the course of their
work day. Your professional scope of practice will involve your ability to lift and transfer clients and move equipment. As such, an
OTA and PTA needs to be in good overall health. It is recommended that you have a high level of fitness when entering the program.
If you have any health-related issues, it is highly recommended you contact the program coordinator to ensure you are aware of
the program’s requirements and an OTA and PTA’s scope of practice, and to discuss any impact this may have on your ability to
fully participate in the learning throughout this program.
“Thank you, once again, for your support and encouragement
throughout my years at Centennial College. Many times I have
wanted to give up, but I knew that being an occupational therapist
assistant and physiotherapist assistant is what I wanted to be
because of my personality. I am now starting a full-time position as an
occupational therapist assistant. I am looking forward to it. The clinical
experiences within the program have been an asset. I have been to multiple
interviews in the past two months, and experience is what they are looking for. My
portfolio comes in handy, especially the reflection section. I am happy I went to
Centennial College for the Occupational Therapist Assistant and Physiotherapist
Assistant program.”
