With their varied knowledge, food service workers in health care settings enjoy numerous career<br />
options. Developed in conjunction with the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care, professional<br />
organizations, and employers, this program ensures the know-how you need. Simultaneously,<br />
it meets current government standards and employer requirements. Lectures and incorporated<br />
practical food lab experiences teach you about quantity food preparation; basic therapeutic diets<br />
and nutrition; sanitation and safety practices; effective communication; and quality customer<br />
service. You also participate in a three-week field placement. In addition to your certificate, obtain<br />
Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) and Worker Safety training and benefit<br />
from the opportunity to secure a TrainCan Basics Food Safety certificate. Graduate confident in your<br />
well-rounded skill set and leadership abilities.<br />

When combined with further education, this program prepares you to enter a health care<br />
profession with the ability to effectively communicate. Designed as a pathway, Health Studies<br />
and Communications is beneficial if you want to enter a college-level health program that leads<br />
to a career in which English fluency (reading, writing, listening, and speaking) is a professional<br />
requirement for safe practice. You refine your English language skills, learn health terminology used<br />
within Canadian health care, and grasp key health concepts. The program enables you to confidently<br />
continue into the School of Community and Health Studies professional health program of your<br />
choice, if you meet all requirements for admission.<br />
