Whether you want to successfully apply for a college program or confidently enter the workforce,<br />
English for Academic Purposes (EAP) gives you an advantage. It is designed to prepare you for college<br />
or university education, or for employment, by developing your academic study skills and improving<br />
your language skills. Following a placement test, enter one of three EAP levels. During each onesemester<br />
level, participate in communicative language activities, group work, and presentations, and<br />
benefit from access to Centennial resources and services. There are direct pathways from EAP Level<br />
3 to college communication courses.<br />

1. This is not a program for absolute beginners or if English is your first language.<br />

The English for Academic Purposes program is fully accredited by Languages Canada.<br />
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS<br />
• Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD),<br />
or equivalent, or mature student status<br />
(19 years of age or older)<br />
• English language proficiency<br />
• You will require the following minimum scores:<br />
› CLB - 4<br />
› IELTS: 3.5-4.0<br />
› TOEFL: 397-433<br />
› ibTOEFL: 30-40<br />
› iTEP: 3.5-3.6<br />
› Pearson TE (Academic): 36-40<br />
› Cambridge Exams: Preliminary English Test pass<br />
Note: All students must complete a specialized English<br />

Building on and improving your language skills is key for college, university, or career success.<br />
This five-level English Language Learning (ELL) program helps if you are an International student<br />
looking to develop effective academic communication skills in reading, writing, listening, speaking,<br />
and pronunciation. Based on communicative teaching and learning practices, ELL is offered in<br />
Elementary, Beginner, Pre-intermediate, Intermediate, and High Intermediate levels, determined by<br />
a diagnostic test. Each level is one semester in length and divided into five modules. Each module<br />
includes communicative activities, interactive exercises, group work, and presentations. You also<br />
have access to tutoring, counselling, the library and computer labs, and other Centennial resources.<br />
