Whether you dream of a career abroad with an international NGO or working locally to create<br />
community services and opportunities that improve people’s quality of life, this program helps to<br />
launch your career. To work with groups experiencing marginalization, build critical thinking skills<br />
in matters such as social change, anti-oppressive practice, sustainable development, community<br />
engagement, community asset-mapping, fundraising and resource mobilization, collaborative<br />
leadership, and project management. Expert guest speakers, field trips, and collaborative projects<br />
with local and international NGOs and other professionals are all program components. You also<br />
participate in two field placements with organizations engaged in community development work.<br />
Note: This program is taught using a combination of modalities. Courses may be delivered face-to-face, online, or in a blended/<br />
hybrid combination of both online and traditional classroom teaching.<br />

With training from this program — which reflects best field practices, provides relevant knowledge,<br />
and addresses current issues — become prepared to be a leader in various roles. Your strong<br />
foundation in understanding intellectual disabilities results from a curriculum guided by years of field<br />
study and work, and by personal relationships with people with intellectual disabilities. Through inclass,<br />
hands-on practice (projects, seminars, community observations, Internet searches, teamwork,<br />
and electronic communication) and two field placements, the program covers a wide range of topics.<br />
Among them are: life experiences of those with intellectual disabilities, the nature of intellectual<br />
disabilities, effecting positive change, and personal support requirements and techniques.<br />
