Firefighter – Pre-Service Education and Training 1260 LENGTH INTAKE CREDENTIAL LOCATION 1 year/3 semesters Fall Ontario College Certificate Progress It is expected that this program — designed in accordance with the Ontario Association of Fire Chiefs and the Ontario Office of the Fire Marshal’s approved curriculum — will increasingly become a minimum criterion for fire service hiring in Ontario. To become an eligible operational firefighter candidate, you develop fire suppression, rescue operations, and environmental protection skills through our combination of theory and practical learning. Acquire hands-on experience at Ajax Fire Services’ training facilities and Morningside Campus’s medical lab. Graduate with the eligibility to write the National Fire Protection Association 1001 Firefighter 1 and 2 as well as the 472 Hazardous Materials Awareness and Operations testing. Your training prepares you to be confident as a leader. Note: The official Ministry name for this program is Pre-Service Firefighter Education and Training. CAREER OUTLOOK Firefighter / Hazmat firefighter / Airport firefighter WATCH PROGRAM VIDEO ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS • Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD), or equivalent, or mature student status (19 years or older) • Grade 12 English (C or U), or equivalent (minimum grade required), or take the Centennial College English Skills Assessment for Admission • Grade 11 Mathematics (C, M, or U) or Grade 12 Mathematics (C, M, or U), or equivalent (minimum grade required), or take the Centennial College Math Skills Assessment for Admission • Grade 11 (C or U) or Grade 12 (C or U) one science (Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Exercise Science), or equivalent (minimum grade required), or take the Centennial College Science Skills Assessment for Admission • English language proficiency • Provide a clear medical report • Complete/update CPR and First Aid training • Assume the cost for your uniforms, personal protective equipment, study materials, and mandatory tests, including but not limited to, physical fitness testing and other provincially-required testing. Notes: 1. Though not required for this program, you should be aware that to secure employment with a municipal fire service, you must, among other things, have 20/30 vision, pass a physical and medical fitness test, and have no criminal record. 2.
