Benjam<strong>in</strong> Volta, works with public school teachers and community leaders creat<strong>in</strong>g methods that l<strong>in</strong>k<br />

art to specific areas of learn<strong>in</strong>g. Students and participants learn how to recognize the importance of<br />

their own ideas as well as how to appreciate each others' differences while merg<strong>in</strong>g them <strong>in</strong>to a<br />

collective focus. Studio Initiatives comb<strong>in</strong>e academic learn<strong>in</strong>g and life skill development with an<br />

audacious aspiration to create great art with<strong>in</strong> an unexpected context. His studio is <strong>in</strong> the Fairmount<br />

Shay Wafer, Executive Director 651 ARTS has demonstrated a stalwart dedication to the arts and<br />

community development through many years of service to the field. Her passionate vision is balanced<br />

with pragmatic experience, as she has held senior level positions at a number of non-profit arts<br />

organizations with a focus on African Diasporic programm<strong>in</strong>g, community engagement and arts<br />

education. In 2007, Shay became the found<strong>in</strong>g Vice President of Programs for the August Wilson<br />

Center for African American Culture, a new multi-discipl<strong>in</strong>ary perform<strong>in</strong>g arts center and museum <strong>in</strong><br />

downtown Pittsburgh. Prior to the August Wilson Center, she served as the manag<strong>in</strong>g director of<br />

Cornerstone Theater Company and LA Theatreworks <strong>in</strong> Los Angeles, California- her hometown. She<br />

also served as the Manag<strong>in</strong>g Direct<br />
